Pru got a TICK! and it's head stayed in!!!

Pru had a tick on her head!! OMG...I was freaking out. Now, it was small, so it could only have been there a day (especially because we had an LONG brushing session yesterday and I can't think I would have missed it :? ) My cat, Minnie, got one last year after escaping into the big wild world (she is an indoor kitty). We removed it without any problem (well, successfully would be a better description as it was a family affair and quite comical once it was over).

But with Pru the body was coming out and then it just seperated and the head was still there!! OMG - I was freaking out! I am a little better but still somewhat freaked out. I performed minor surgery with tweezers and a needle and I think we got it all. I cleaned it fanatically with rubbing alcohol, peroxide, and covered it with Neosporin. Can anyone think of anything else I need to do?

Also, she is on Trifexis, but that is not a tick medication. I feel like my vet told me about Frontline and the differences between the two, but now I can't remember the whole conversation. And...of course...it's Saturday, so I can't call her. Does anyone live in an area that is prone to ticks and, if so, what medications do you use, if any.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice...at least until I can get to the vet Monday. I am just gonna clean that spot fanatically until Monday, to hopefully avoid the ER Vet. Everything I have read said that is not necessary unless I see signs of infection at the site.

Ticks are the worst! When pulling a tick out always make sure the head is completely out.
Dont worry about it i have 2 cats and a dog and have had many ticks before :)

My mom pulls them out though not me lol
If you are absolutely sure that the head is out use some watered down dettol or antiseptic and rub a little over the wound. It will heal itself.

Ticks are nasty critters lol :P

GOOD LUCK X
edited to say - frontline is great, t prevents ticks and fleas, we use stronghold on our cats and dog. Frontline and stronghold are as good as each other. Flea monthly and no more ticks. Fingers crossed :ghug:
There will be a swelling over the spot for awhile, that goes away. Not time to panic, you did well. Monday call the vet and ask your questions.

I agree, ticks are yucky.
Teddy had a tick on his muzzle in october. Even though the head came out, he still had a bump from it for about a month. I did the same treatment you did. I called my vet and she said that should do. I use Frontline and it works really well. It successfully killed any ticks he had on his head. I'm thinking this one only survived for a few days because it was very close to his nose. I didn't see it right away because it was hiding pretty well under his face hair.

I hate ticks! They are so gross!

Just keep treating with the Neosporin and watch for infection. You should be fine to wait until monday to see your vet if you are still concerned about it.
