Its really going to be bone chilling cold here tonight. Below 0 degree's. I was outside this afternoon with nothing on my fingers and the darn things nearly snapped off. To top it all off, we are getting MORE snow..3-6" and I suck with the snowblower. Oh, and Dawn "should" see some of the white stuff too. |

I will have to say that I would be alone--my husband hates cold weather too! |
oh! Hi! I totally expected that to be a post from David- Mady's, Virginia, and Gracie's dad. I'm sorry. Start a fire. Hot chocolate. Let everyone pee and poop indoors and just clean it up when it gets warm. ???? well, it was a thought. probably not the best smelling one I've ever had..... |
Cold here too. 1 degree here in Ann Arbor. Thank goodness I just have to open the sliding glass door and the pups go out on there own. Snow tonight. Yay Yay Lisa Frankie Mattie |
The lack of snow here (sorry to those who are buried under) is crazy. We just came from TN, drove through the mountains and didn't see any! Now, in NC I'm not complaining.... Mild winters are a huge plus. But no snow , in the mountains, in January? That's just wrong. Did all you NO SNOW whisperers remember to say WHERE you wanted no snow? |
I am getting to be more and more like Pam. I am loving the snow, but the bone chilling cold is getting to me this year, no matter how many layers of hideous clothing I am wearing. I wish it could just always be -8C with snow. Well, not all year, but at least all winter. At least you Americans can stay within your own country and yet move somewhere warm. Us Canadians are trapped up here! |
I don't mind the cold...for a little while...especially if there is snow. I may change my tune in a few years. One thing that weirds me out when it gets really cold are the tiny icicles that freeze on my eye lashes |

Us Canadians are trapped up here! I used to love snow until I had to drive in it to Downtown Detroit, Michigan from the suburbs. I had my fill of cold and snow, but mostly lacking sun, so in 2003 moved to sunny/warm Florida and other then missing my family I left behind, I have no regrets. We have sun nearly everyday. When it get chilly, it is only for a short time, before you know it we are back in our shorts and flip flops. The Hurricanes haven't chased me away, yet. lol I do consider myself lucky that all I had to do was move 1200 miles south, but able to stay in the same country, to find my paradise. One of the great things about the States is you can find whatever type of weather/geography you like somewhere here.... |
We are getting some snow...just an inch so far. This winter really bites. The lack of snow is one thing, but the gardens count on the snow to insulate, so I'm sure I'll have lots of winter kill. And with our drought fall, this is getting scary for us coming into spring this dry. We have the cold now - it was below 0F (-16C) most of yesterday - I think the high might have been +2F. Right now it's warmer, it's 4F (-14C). But tonight it's supposed to go back down to -14F (-25C). Chewie and I have an agility trial Saturday morning, so that -14F is going to make for a brutal start to the day! |
At least you don't have a puppy to housetrain in this bitter cold! (Why did we get ANOTHER puppy in January? Did I really want to spend more time outside than inside in January?) |

Oh, and Dawn "should" see some of the white stuff too. I'm with you on this one! I loved the snow when I was a kid but now it mostly annoys me. I dislike the cold more than the snow because I hate wearing all the big bulky winter stuff. Give me shorts and a tank top or t-shirt! We've really had a good winter as far as no real snow up until last week. That's been really nice for me with my Teddy walks. I don't mind putting the boots on him for the walk but I hate that we can't walk as fast because of trying to be careful of any slippery spots. We just had some melting the last few days and now it's snowing again and they are threatening 4-6 inches by the time it's over tonight. Cindy |
I love the snow. All three of my dogs turn into puppies in it, so I really love winter for that reason.. plus I got some great snowpants and boots this year! I could do without the snowless cold. Though, my dogs would rather me get hypothermia than have to come inside. Even my shaved underweight Wheaten loves a good ole 1 degree day! |
Not a big fan of it but we have a ft right now.i like driving in it. The dot just plowed our rd for the first time ive lived here (5) yrs theres only 3 houses down my rd and ive never had to shovel it but now i do....thanks dot jerks. My dogs love the snoe lily jumps face first into it. Is the best thing to see her play in the snow |
We're in the same boat as Dawn, need the moisture and we've only got a couple of inches on the ground. Very unusual for us so worried about the plants and the water table, we all use wells. Butchy loves the snow but with this cold snap we're getting even he is trying to walk on 3 legs and it's not going too well. At least we might get another inch or two this afternoon and then it will warm up some, glad of that. |
S N O W is a 4 letter word! If I could take my house and move it to a warmer area, I would. Trading houses for the season is an excellent idea! |

I'd like a little winter which means at least two to three inches of snow. I want to play in it with Charm. But so far..... Last week our weather was thunderstorms with highs in 60's. Unbelievable for mid January. |
Loving the lack of snow here (in my part of UK) this year, haven't fallen over once yet! Other people moan about the rain and wind! bring it on I say, weeks of snow and lethal ice you can keep! |
For all you chilled, cold, frosty, 2 leeged and 4 legged, VISIT DOWNUNDER!!!!! Summer here, plenty of room between mim and I, tropical coctails on ice gawd sunshine, sunshine and today hate to say it a lovely 28 celcius Snow whats that Woo Hoo dinnys outside, barbequeing, lots of drinkie poos and sheepies waiting in anticipation for mere bbq morsels left over, gawd I love this weather |
Considering we are in a Stage 4 drought (we can water the yard twice a month) and suffering from foundation issues....... We need water and snow. We are losing trees by the thousands. Friday, it was 78 degrees outside. We had trouble finding an available patio to lounge on - they were all packed. Did I mention 78 degrees, in January, in Dallas? Last year, we also had some beautiful days, but we paid for it with a very hot summer. |
I don't mind snow but last night we had ICE. I was afraid Dale would not make it home. He arrived an hour late and said the fast speed was 20mph. We have a slight grade to our driveway and he got stuck and couldn't get up it until he spread sand and salt. It is good that it is a Saturday or it would be really bad out there. Our county has quite a few power outages as well. We weren't one of those at least. It will be in the 50's Sunday. This weather is crazy. |
Well, Ive whined about my weather so much, I thought Id post about one of the few happy compensations Liz (who some of you know here on the forum) came and rescued me yesterday from my weeks long snow-enforced captivity, and when I complained about how bitterly cold it was outside, she reminded me: "Hey, at least its Pretty Coat Weather!" Pretty Coats! (i.e. Parkas ) I have a BRAND NEW one of those, that I had barely had a chance to wear! It was a result of the best artist's barter deal Ive ever made Last year at a X-mas fair, a very famous parka maker approached me and asked if I would trade with her, since her husband had fallen in love with a piece of my artwork. I had wanted a Laura Wright Parka for as long as I could remember, with no hope of being able to afford one. So...I got to choose my fabrics trims etc and have a fitting, and full year later I had my wonderful new coat please excuse the sideways photo |
Oh Laurel how beautiful! I love the royal purple--looks nice on you! |
Are you off to bag a whale for supper? |

I use the library feature from home so often, when I can't get to town to hit the library or don't feel like buying more books!! And I LOVE, LOVE your parka....I think I now hate you..... I think I should have one of those driving my sled dog team of OES..... |

I think I should have one of those driving my sled dog team of OES..... I do have a Kindle, and I LOVE it, but I also love having "real" books . Especially in some subject areas like nonfiction with illustrations and charts etc. Don't hate me because my coat is beautiful You really should! If you like mine, check out these Parkas by the same seamstress (from a fashion show here): http://www.flickr.com/photos/63611572@N00/5988389062/ |
I love coats... Those are truly beautiful. I wonder what I have she would like to trade for?? I have been dreaming of a Wintergreen parka from up in Ely, MN http://www.wintergreennorthernwear.com/ ... oraks.html When I was up there I prioritized...and got my Steger Mukluks...no money for the parka too |
got sheep wrote: I wonder what I have she would like to trade for?? Well, I cant speak for her (Sheila) but Id probably give up my nifty purple coat if you packed up Bond and sent him to me in exchange! FYI, I dont even want to think about how much the Parkas in that fashion show probably went for. My coat was about $700.00 ( equivalent in artwork that is) and it has fake fur. If I wanted real fur, the price would have aprox. doubled (depending on the fur type). I have the option of swapping out for real fur later if I want to, so the next time someone offers me a nice wolverine pelt in barter for artwork Ill have to seriously consider it . I have one customer up North who keeps trying to pawn an ancient polar bear pelt off on me, but he admits that the tanning wasn't ever done correctly, so uh...no . |
Those in the fashion show were really, really nice. and I'm sure really, really expensive! Sorry, no Bond swapping!....good try though He's so sweet...right now he's laying with his new snake toy I bought today under his head like a pillow. Too bad my camera isn't anywhere near me |
