What kind of pie? |
That's what I've always said (except w/o the baked beans please). I've always felt a little of whatever you want should be enjoyed. Never bought into those eliminate your carb diets. Not that they didn't work because they do, I just felt a better long term diet are those who have a little of EVERYTHING. Now with health issues, I'm not given a choice. |
Thing is the best meat pies are in New Zealand, what an excuse for a holiday! |
I lived in Australia, and I used to love curry pies, and steak and mushroom! We have an AU pie shop in Atlanta, but its not near our house. |
the best pie is `chicken and mushroom` `pukka pie` from the chippy across the street lol !! |
So in American terminology - is this "pie" like (what we call) a pot pie? Is there a double crust, or just a crust on top? My mom used to make what we just called a meat pie with a double crust and a stew-like mixture inside. And I know chips are our french fries, but what is a "chippy" the way Samantha is using it? |
`chippy` is just slang for fish and chip shop. |
BlooBoo wrote: the best pie is `chicken and mushroom` `pukka pie` from the chippy across the street lol !! Sam, I thought you said that place was awful... Reading this thread is like looking through a cook book with no photos... I need to see what it should look like before I decide to make it. Vance |
.....what are you driving at? I don't understand your meals Who xill invite me to taste it What's "pie" for you? Fot us it's american'a pie, in french "tarte" with apple? I'm confused |
Me too Marc Pies can be sweet like apple....rather like what you'd call a tart. A savory pie would be with meats and perhaps vegetables. Crust on the top, the bottom or both eaten with a knife and fork. Or a pie can be a single, hand held sweet or savory pie with surrounding crust all about. These can be served warm or cold. Want to really be confused? In New York pizzas care called pie so if someone is saying, "Let's go for pie" it could be just about anything: pizza, savory meat pie or sweet dessert pie. |
Yeah, I'm thinking the way the Brits & Aussies are using the term "pie" in this thread might be what Americans call a "pot pie". I love chicken pot pie. |
lol....more confused.... I resume: Pie in US is all thing eatable... |
I know this is a regional thing, but I thought I'd throw this out there just to confuse things a bit more: Where I live chicken pot pie has NO CRUST. We call the thing with the crust on top- a chicken pie. POT pie is a thick stew-type food with large flat noodles. Shellie |
When you arder in a restaurant: do you understand you each other lol? |
Oddly, yes we identify someone who isn't Pennsylvania Dutch pretty quickly. (mostly by accent I think) It's a hard accent to get rid of. Especially when I am angry, laughing, or in a hurry. Shellie |
Well, nothing in the US is "as easy as pie". LOL |
