I tried putting peanut butter in George's kong, he didn't seem to understand it, and soon lost interest - I thought he didn't like it but I think he's just got a short attention span. sam, I thought the same as you, I always knew you weren't supposed to give cats nuts. But I gave it a try since everyone here seems to. At the moment, I give George a peanut butter treat every night when I put him to bed - I get an activia yoghurt pot (sturdier than a normal yoghurt pot and plus he's only 12 weeks atm) smear the sides with peanut butter (not too much, just a thin layer) and throw that in and that keeps him occupied for five minutes or so before he settles. It used to make him thirsty so now I smear the sides with peanut butter, then put a small amount of water in the bottom of the pot and freeze it. It seems to be a winner for now!! but yeah, George goes mad for peanut butter, think it actually makes him look forward to bed time |
Sam and Nola LOVE peanut butter. It started as a way to give pills to the pups but now it's a little bit every night, just a touch but they love it and wait around for it after their dinner is served!!! |
He is certainly old enough. We give Dahlia peanut butter in her Kong....and we add in some biscuits or dog kibble as well to make it difficult. Then, we sometimes freeze it! She gets this in her "pen" when we need to leave the house or just to have some down time. We give her a couple of table-spoons and really smear it around in there. If you are just starting out with peanut butter, I would just use a little bit to make sure it doesn't bother his tummy. Then, if you find it to be easy on his belly, you can give him more. Dahlia has an iron stomach, so she can eat just about anything and never have an issue. We do give her "smooth and creamy" peanut butter instead of crunchy. I also buy the simply peanut butter which is lower in sugar.... Not sure why really, except, I figured she doesn't need the extra sugar. But, she has certainly had full fat, full sugar, all natural, crunchy, creamy and just about every kind of peanut butter out there As a side note, Dahlia's school also gives out Kong's full of peanut butter in the kindergarten and Basic Obedience classes to keep the dogs busy while others are having a turn or while the instructor is talking. Peanut butter (unless they have an intolerance or allergy) should be fine for dogs and older puppies. |
thanks for that info! I ill try the activia pot idea. ( i love them yoghurts lol) |
LOL!!! Our boy's have their own PB stash too. Of course that's because I like to dip their cookies directly in to the jar and not sure I'd like the flavor of milk bone in my PBJ sandwiches |

I wrote her name on the top of them with marker..... because we do the same thing! We dip her treats in them and bully sticks and other goodies.... and for some reason, that just doesn't appeal to me on my sandwich! |
Bully stick dipped in peanut butter. Does life get any better for a dog? |
We don't use peanut butter with the nuts or crunchy style. Only smooth and creamy....Usually when trying anything new, give a small amount at a time to make sure no allergies... |
Carley like peanut butter on a piece of apple. She licks it off and waits to see if we will put more on before she eats the apple. |
So far, we haven't given Gracie any treats or peanut butter at all, just her puppy food (and what adult food she sneaks). I'm not even trying to be strict with her or anything. It's just that her poops have been amazing and continue to be amazing, I don't want to rock the boat! When you have dogs, it's funny how happy good poops makes you! |

I never appreciated good poops until this week when we have experienced otherwise |
My guys love peanut butter--they get a little every day! Usually their 'cookies' are dipped in 'crunchy'!! |

I know it's confusing since the word nut is right in the name, but peanuts are actually legumes like peas and other pod vegetables. |
