Accomplishments over the past 3 weeks

Though I haven't been on in 3 weeks...much to my displeasure :( ...I have been busy with our sweet lil Pru and learning, learning, learning. I had to share here...well really because non OES owners (both at work and family) just think I am silly when I brag or talk about these things (or they flinch with disgust... )

I tackled the ear cleaning finally. It took a call to Amber for moral support...(and btw Amber....I am so sorry I didn't call back, so I hope you know that no news was good news ...her ears looked fine  ). Pru now sits for this, though she is still not fond of the process it is not a battle at all. :phew:

I groomed her paws all by myself  . I can't say that they were 100%, but I must say I was pretty proud of my handy work for a novice. ..and I cannot believe I forgot to take pictures!!!

I even trimmed her nails (was totally scared of this the most). I still have work to do on mastering this task..or even looking like I did anything...lol.

I have to admit - the brush time between Pru and I is our special time. I feel like I get to love on her and she just lays there and seems to enjoy it also. NO one could have convinced me a year ago that the words "enjoy" and anything to do with "dog grooming" would come out of my mouth at the same time  ...but it truly is becoming something I enjoy and know it makes Pru feel good and look so good too  ...though I have yet to accomplish a pic of any of my handy work...lol.

So, I see a grooming table and dryer and all the goodies in my future. I keep looking at my house to figure out where to make a special grooming room for her...but that is many moons from now, as we need to get the backyard fence complete so she and Piper can run and play outside in a few months with no worries.

Thanks for "listening". My colleagues at work will appreciate it because I don't think they really care about my grooming accomplishments... ..ho hum.

Next time I hope to have pics!

Yes, pictures!!! congratulations. You and Pru should have a good long relationship with all that touchy feely going on.
So proud of you!!!!! With my first ever OES puppy right now, I totally get it. Grooming is like learning a foreign language and each new task learned is like speaking a sentence that a native understood. It's hard but gets easier with practice. So happy for you!!

Oooohhh. Maybe this is a good place to bring this up

Someone told me to get a cheap electric toothbrush and use on
Cs paws inbetween the pads. Will desensitize the area and get him
Used to sound for dremel. Has anyone done this? And you can
Get dremel at hardware store will be better than ones sold for pets? :?:
You can use either kind of dremel but the ones at hardware stores generally are louder in noise & maybe have a stronger "motion". I have found the one I got from Pet Edge works just fine. I've had it for about 5 years or more now & do at least 3 dogs' nails every week. Only thing I've had to replace is the little grinding pads & they are cheap enough & easy enough to find at a place like Home Depot. I showed one of my show homes how to do the nails with my dremel. He tried it at home with a commercial dremel he had from the hardware store & said the dog wouldn't let him do it. He thought it was becasue it was louder & the motion of the grinding was also felt more.
I was wondering how you and Pru were doing!

Glad to hear your grooming is getting off on the right foot.....

Sounds like you are doing well, and so is Pru. You aren't crazy :D , there are many of us who like grooming time with our dogs. You have the right attitude - if you make it a special time of attention with your puppy now, it will be a fun experience you both can enjoy.

Was just thinking about this last night. It's totally a zen feeling for both Charm and I. Sometimes, we have girl talk, she's the best!! :hearts:
Those are huge accomplishments! David and I were in exactly the same spot as you two years ago, with our first OES. Many calls to Amber and a few failures here and there and I think that we have made huge progress. We still make mistakes and still call Amber or ask on the forum for advice, but it is fun to look back and see the progress we made. Please take some pictures of Pru, I would love to see how big she is now. My goodness I wish that you lived closer, it would be fun to have a play date!
