Any thoughts as to what is going on. Thanks Erin/Gertie |

Geez, is there an epidemic or something? Rudy. A performance dog back east, also had a thyroid panel done and is normal. I'm beginning to wonder if our unseasonable weather may be a contributing factor. How old is Gertie? KB |
She is 4 and a half. She seems to be in perfect health except for the hair loss. |
Rosie's first sign of Cushings disease was hair loss and dry skin. |
The vet said that we could do a complete blood panel to rule out anything including Cushing. We had a Malamute some years back that had Cushings and the first signs of that disease in increased water intake and additional output. Which Gertie has not done, if anything I think she is part Camel. She will hold her urine in the morning for hours before even going. I told the vet that I wanted to run it by the board here before doing anything else. Erin/Gertie |
You need to know what thyroid test your vet is using. Dr. Jean Dodds in California has done research in OES and thyroids......haven't we talked about this before here? There's a simple thyroid test which often shows up false in OES. Our guys need the full meal deal: T3, Free T3, T4, Free T4 and TGAA. Most vets run either T3 or T4, sometimes both, but not all 5. Plus Jean has a good data base for OES. If your vet's nose won't be out of joint, they can draw the blood and you ship it to Jean in Calif. http://www.hemopet.org/services.html |
Have you eliminated mite? I had an oes-bitch once with mite. She was healthy, no wounds, no itching, she only lost a lot of fur from her coat. |
I will have the vet check for mites. The thyroid panel was done at University of Michigan. To tell you the truth I do not know what test they ran. I will speak to the vet and ask if all the above was done. I an leaning towards having the complete blood panel done just to check everything. Gertie/Erin |

Gertie/Erin Your vet probably had the full thyroid panel done then. I have my vet use Michigan as well. They are also one of the approved OFA labs. Kristine |
Chap was losing hair due to diabetes. Most simple blood test there is - just rule it out. |
Thanks! |
