We've actually been invited to a viewing party this weekend! None of us have seen it before, but we've heard so many good things that we got a copy of the DVD (actually I think we all bought copies) and agreed to watch the first few episodes together on Saturday. Adam's just had a ton of deadlines dropped on him, so I hope we won't have to cancel! |
Amanda and I watch it. We saw the first season last year and really enjoyed the second season premiere last Sunday. Really great show!! |
What is it about? |
I really enjoy Downton Abbey, though in Australia the second season hasn't started yet |
Mady wrote: What is it about? From the PBS site: The Downton Abbey estate stands a splendid example of confidence and mettle, its family enduring for generations and its staff a well-oiled machine of propriety. But change is afoot at Downton — change far surpassing the new electric lights and telephone. A crisis of inheritance threatens to displace the resident Crawley family, in spite of the best efforts of the noble and compassionate Earl, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville, Miss Austen Regrets); his American heiress wife, Cora (Elizabeth McGovern); his comically implacable, opinionated mother, Violet (Maggie Smith, David Copperfield); and his beautiful, eldest daughter, Mary, intent on charting her own course. Reluctantly, the family is forced to welcome its heir apparent, the self-made and proudly modern Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), himself none too happy about the new arrangements. As Matthew's bristly relationship with Mary begins to crackle with electricity, hope for the future of Downton's dynasty takes shape. But when petty jealousies and ambitions grow among the family and the staff, scheming and secrets — both delicious and dangerous — threaten to derail the scramble to preserve Downton Abbey. Created and written by Oscar-winner Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park), Downton Abbey offers a spot-on portrait of a vanishing way of life. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/dow ... ason1.html |
Oh that is just right up my alley! Plus, anything that has Maggie Smith in it is bound to be enjoyable. I will put it on our Zip list. |
it is finished in the UK. have you seen the Christmas special? |
KTB wrote: it is finished in the UK. have you seen the Christmas special? No, it airs as part of Masterpiece Classic on PBS in the US...and Masterpiece Classic always starts at the beginning of the year. Therefore we have only seen 1 episode...the next is this Sunday. |
I love Downton Abbey. It's well written, and well acted. The characters and the storylines are interesting. The sets and costumes are to die for. Maggie Smith must be having a ball. She gets all the very best lines. |
I love that show. Didn't know the name of it. Haven't seen many of the episodes but thoroughly enjoyed the ones I saw. |
KTB wrote: it is finished in the UK. have you seen the Christmas special? I did, very entertaining! Interesting characters, good written and well played: Can you ask for more? |
we watched the first three episodes with friends, and loved it! We want to re-watch, as it was kind of loud and we didn't hear many of the lines. But we got the season one dvd and hope to watch it all soon! |
I'm glad so many are enjoying this program. I recorded this past Sunday. |
I just caught up with this program. Season 1 is on streaming Netflix, and all season 2 episodes are on www.pbs.org. Can't wait for Sunday's episode!! |
I am really glad you are enjoying it, I love anything like that...x |
I loved the first season! I saw it on Netflix and watched/listened to it a second time just recently while working. Thanks so much for posting where to find season 2, Chris! I knew I'd missed the first episodes and thought I'd have to wait to see them... didn't want to start watching mid-season. |
It is finished in the U.K.? How many seasons were there? |
season 2 just shipped to us from Amazon; so they must be done in the UK. we're going to watch a marathon tomorrow! |
Downtons homepage maybe some spoilers on it !!!! http://www.itv.com/downtonabbey/ |
we've watched it all except the Christmas Special at this point. I'm VERY obsessed, and was doing little character sketches today!!!! |
I have seen your sketches on FB.They are very good. |
thanks; they are part of what I hope to be a bigger image after I finish Sybill! |
Love the series so far. A third season is in the works and I believe is being filmed now. I think it is scheduled to show in Great Britain in the fall and in the states next January. |
I don't think I got Lady Mary quite right, but I can always practice, right???? *obsessed emoticon* |
I saw these on FB, too. I am SO freakin' jealous of your talent!! I have trouble drawing stick people! |
Edith and Sybil are dead on. WOW. I really like the neckline aspect of the picture. Totally cool. |
Allison, you are GOOD! My hubby got me hooked on Downton Abbey. Thanks to Netflix and PBS iPad app, I've gone through 8 episodes in 2 days. Love this type of movies! |

Anyone still watching? We just has the second episode air last Sunday here in the US-- SO stressful! But I don't want to be specific- spoilers! |
Oh yes, it is my fav show. I've not bought the DVD's yet, but will. I DVR the show each week, so watch each episode about 4 or 5 times before the next one comes on. lol |
Oh yes--I torture myself by watching--LOL!! |
It has become a bit tortuous, hasn't it? We were just saying how there was a time when the worst thing that happened was Lord Grantham's dog went missing. It's really getting a bit dark- I don't know if I can take it!!! |
