This may sound odd as I'm from the Midwest, but I really like surf music like from the Ventures, Tornadoes and of course, Dick Dale. Dale is the self-proclaimed and never disputed King of Surf. I have many CDs from the Reverend Horton Heat and Link Wray. These guys are rock-a-billy and the Good Reverend has some pretty funny lyrics too. I also like blues. The last CD I bought was from a duo from the Akron, OH area called The Black Keys. These two guys do some amazing work. I worked as a roadie for a band that played 60s rock. I love that era of music so that was a great job - getting paid to listen to my friends play my favorite music and we got free drinks too! Quote: I really like surf music like from the Ventures, Tornadoes and of course, Dick Dale. Dale is the self-proclaimed and never disputed King of Surf. ditto! and the Del Tones! Aways thought it strange the boy from Boston became King of Surf........but he did have the sound! Sticks in my mind he wrote theme to Hawaii 5-0......or he just played it well?? |
im an 80's girl...give me Prince, Michael Jackson and the MaryJane girls any day |
To answer my own question: Quote: The song (Hawaii 5-0 theme) was composed by Morton Stevens and performed by the CBS Orchestra. A later variation of it was recorded by The Ventures and reached #3 on the Billboard record charts. Ah, that's where I'm confused, The Ventures, not Dick Dale......my mistake |
OMG! I am OLD!!!!! My faves are The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, Steppenwolf and of course david Bowie ( my male is named after him!)......oh my, these go back to the 60's/early 70s.... |

I do have it on CD along with about eight other versions. Vance |
I'm a 60's girl, too. LOVED Motown; early rock - Beatles, Rolling Stones, all other British import bands; the "hippie" sound. Timeless music. |
This evening flipping around and came up an infomercial for 50's country and honky tonk music......looked at DH and we both chuckled, yep we knew the songs and the singers even before their names were flashed on the screen. The week before we were doing same for 40/50's country.......no we are not buying the cd collections, Good to know re: Hawaii 5-0. Unfortunately all day I've had Bonsai Pipeline in my head.....make it go away!! Each time I try to push it out Little Surfer Girl flops in. Maybe I do need some Conway Twitty to push all out.......nooooooooo! |
