I can't walk Mady without someone squealing 'Mr. Mugs!!!!' at me. I tell them that 'It is Ms. Mugs'. Those books had a huge impact on people and I love how seeing Mady makes them remember something that gave them joy. |

Over the years, different dogs have appeared in the advertisements, all very similar in appearance, as most of them have been selected from a closely related line of pedigree dogs. The first Dulux dog was ''Shepton Dash'', who held the role for eight years. His successor, ''Fernville Lord Digby'', was the most famous Dulux dog and also made his owner, Cynthia Harrison, famous. When filming commercials, Digby was treated like a star and was driven to the studio by a chauffeur. Barbara Woodhouse was employed to train Digby and his three stunt doubles, who were used whenever specific tricks or actions needed to be filmed. Apart from Dash, all the Dulux dogs have been breed champions. Five of them have won 'Best of Show' prizes. The most recent Dulux Dog, Don, is Crufts Qualified. |
Ambrosius and Merlin from the film ''Labyrinth'' - Barkley from Sesame Street - Boot from the comic strip The Perishers - "The Colonel" in the book ''101 Dalmatians'' - Digby from the film Digby, the Biggest Dog in the World - Edison from the film ''Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'' - Farley, the first dog of the Patterson family in the comic strip, ''For Better or For Worse''. Serpico with Al Pacino! The end scene or maybe it was the beginning? Shows Serpico sitting on the curb hugging his dog (an OES). Falcor, was a flying dragon in Never Ending Story but resembled an OES so much that after watching my son's favorite movie a gazillion times I used to call my OES shaggy, Falcor in jest. Falcor, looked exactly like a giant flying Sheepdog! Some of you that live near the Pacific Northwest may know the name Emily Carr whom was one of our famous artist in the turn of the century. Schools, Public Instituions and a Art University have been named after her. She was known not only for her paintings of totem poles at the turn of the century but of her (in those times) unheard of lifestyle in which she had a caravan (trailer type thingie) towed to remote Aboriginal Villages and other times in the middle of nowhere and lived there happily with her 5 Old English Sheepdogs. Photos of her often show her with her OES. She also had a managerie of other smaller pets that travelled with her. Her art work sells for millions and I'd like to think that while they are not featured in her work the OES were her inspiration to travel safely to remote places in order to carry out her work. As has been mentioned, those Disney movies!!! Digby, Please dont Daisies, and the Shaggy DA both of which I saw as a kid and created a life long urg to someday have one of those Lovable Fluffy Adorable dogs. Sigh. |

Rush Limbaugh has two OES-- He mentions them quite often-don't know of a politician that has one though. |
I found this on the net but unable to find pics (although I didn't search too hard) In a way, Serpico is less a film about a heroic, principled policeman, and more a film about a heroic, principled policeman's hair. Over the course of two hours, we see Pacino's facial foliage expand magnificently, in tandem with the coat of his adorable old English sheepdog, from moustache to goatee to full-blown beard. While the film is simply structured, going back through the events that have put Serpico in hospital with a bullet wound to the head, time is shown to pass in the progress of Serpico's hair, with the inference that what bothers his fellow officers is less his do-gooding and more that he is "different". It's a very '70s idea, but then Serpico is a very '70s film, putting an unusual kind of faith in the hippie dream. With its lack of idiosyncrasies at its well-intentioned root, it feels like a cliché but, sometimes, seeing one of those is the most life-affirming of all. |

Thanks Guest - the last pic with the puppies was adorable! Franklin D Roosevelt had an OES whom he named Tiny. |
Movie "Where the Wild Things Are" filmed here and local OES Alfred had a part in the movie, spot the oes at the end of the trailer for the film. viewtopic.php?f=33&t=27846&p=382787&hilit=Movie+Wild+Things#p382787 Also Paul McCartneys OES think one of them was named "Martha" |
I personally think my two sheepdogs are very famous or should be Bowie named after david Bowie and bella, named after Clarabelle the clown... |
Capt. Kangaroo's sheepdog's name was Bebe. |
Recently there was an episode of Property Virgins on HGTV--filmed in Toronto--at the beginning of this episode they show someone walking a sheepie puppy! |

If you're a Terry Gilliam fan, you'll remember when The Evil One turned his henchman "Benson" into a sheepdog to guard the map of all the time holes. And Benson (quite rightly) thanked him eagerly for the privilege of sheepdog-dom. |

sheepiezone wrote: Recently there was an episode of Property Virgins on HGTV Which reminds me about an OES that appeared in one of Cesar Millan's episodes in season 4. The sheepie wasn't the dog Cesar was called for, just a helper from the neighborhood. Wow, all in all the list is way longer than I thought it would be! |
The dog you seen on Property Virgins was probably Nessie - the host of the show Sandra Rinomato has a Blueshire dog. Also, I just recently sold a pup to the New York Yankees star pitcher CC Sabathia and his family. They named him Raider. |

Was it a new episode? Do you know the name of the episode? Friends of Sandra & Gary's purchased a pup from me last year, so I am wondering if it is her? I will ask Sandra. |

I don't know if it was new or not - I'm thinking maybe it was, as I've seem most episodes and I would have remembered the puppy!...it's been awhile now and I forget even which episode it was. Sad brain... Maybe Karen remembers?? It was a Toronto episode though. It is a pretty close in shot (below the waist of the person), walking the puppy along the edge of a newer residential area street. Not an older neighborhood with a normal curb and sidewalk, but a newer street with a sloping curb and just lawns (no sidewalk). |

I do believe it was a 2010 episode and I know that it has been rerun because I saw it twice at least. Dawn is right on with the description--no person but pup was on a leash in a nice neighborhood. They did a pretty good close up on the pup. I really like that show and I like Sandra--guess now I know why--she is a sheepie person! Was disappointed to see in a new promo for the show that there is a new host--hope she comes back! It is really cool Amber that she has one of your dogs! |
If it is a 2010 show I would bet anything it is Nessie-Lou. |
Rod McKuen had sheepdogs. If you are as old as me you might remember him. His dogs were on several of his album covers. I will have to look up names. |
Dont forget bumble and dougle(i think thats right) from its me or the dog. They were famous for all the wrong reasons. |

I met Nessie and Sandra last spring. We were doing the sheep herding instinct test on the same day. Nessie is a sweet gentle girl! Happy to say both Howie and Nessie passed the test! Amber, hopefully you and Sandra are able to make it to our next playdate. We are trying to set a date for a Sunday in Feb or March. peg & howie |
I remember Rod McKuen! He was a poet of some sort I think. In fact I had some of his books back in the day...but I don't remember any OES on them. I'll have to look! |
For those who remember Rod McKuen, I first fell in love with sheepdogs when Mr. Kelly, Rod McKuen's sheepdog, pranced out on to the stage during a concert in New York City. Rod McKuen was a composer as well as a poet and performed his songs also. He had two sheepies at one time, second one was named Katie. Our first sheepdog was Beefy, (short for Beefeater) in 1972 (not too long after this concert !) and we've had them ever since. (40 years !) Our current furry family member is Tanq, (short for Tanqueray,) our fifth OES. Beth Florida |
If you go to his autobiography page you will see pictures of several of his dogs. |
If you are familiar with the DORIS DAY SHOW from 1968-1973, the dogs' name was 'Lord Nelson.' |
I'll have to looe at Rod McKuen's books...I feel really old now! |
