Of course, many of us live with other breeds as well so we may indulge in a cute lil coat for them. I always thought I'd never be one of those people that "dressed up" my dog. Last summer I attended the SPCA annual swapmeet and apon recognizing me as a long term volunteer I was "sold" three brand new XL coats for 2 dollars. Guess no one else had extra large breeds as it seems that usually only the wee little dogs get dressed up and they pretty much gave the coats to me. Anyhow, they were Houndstooth print and there was even a collar to match! Oh while I would never use them - I thought they'd be the perfect thing for a photo op! Merlin, Snoop and Gilligan could wear the coats, Panda could wear the collar Now this is the funny part as I also have a Houndstooth coat!!! I could also see the great photo we'd take with all of us sporting our coats. Alas it never happened but who knows I'll save them for next year. Yesterday, I took Snoop out for his walk around the neighborhood and I couldn't find his usual service type coat he wears so I dressed him in his Houndstooth coat. Egads he looked truly embarressed! So anyhow I was wondering if anyone else ever purchases coats for their furkids? |

I got a coat for bloo, its waterproof wind proof and unrippable (if thats a word) Its called `Outhwaites` type that into google should come up with horse stuff but you have to find dog section. They are really good, they sell viz vest ones too to see the dog in the dark http://www.outhwaites.com |
Yes, but they only wear one in exceptional circumstances.......if they've been shaved down during winter, if they have a booboo that must be protected (Harry tearing his skin crashing through the hedge or some bite wound). If I were in a wet climate and had them outside often, yes I'd have a rain coat or other water proof to reduce the drying time. |
Never for my OES, but my other dogs yes! Right now Riley the rat terrier has one he wears when we are going to class and therapy dog visits. Living in the country - if we broke down or went in the ditch, he could freeze to death! Simon has a jacket, and a sweater for in the house. Simon always has been a freezy boy. And he's not doing well again and seems cold and shivers. He has a light weight sweater he wears all the time now, except for grooming and baths. And when our family had Min Pins, they always had fleece outerwear - those dogs have no hair and no bodyfat! |
^^ Same as gotsheep!!! If Yuki is shivering ...it's time to go in even for me, so never for her but always for others I've had. |
Yes, I bought coats for my dogs. They have winter coats that really help when it is snowing and rain slickers. When they wear the red slickers they look like Little Red Riding Hood. Very Cute! They don't seem to mind at all. |
You guys have to post pics of your dogs!! I'd love to see them! |
Yes I bought a winter coat, and it came with a free dog built in! |
LOL Baba!!! That coat goes great with his eyes and fits perfectly! |
I wish I knew how to post pictures. I do NOT own a computer and the one here at work is a piece of crap. Only a desk top. My idea of a hight tech camera is the disposable kind. |
Yes. My previous dog wore coats all the time in winter (short haired dog) and when i shaved down lily, she started shivering. I went out and bought her a coat. She loves wearing it, when shes shaved she sleeps under the blankets too. I wouln't put one on her in coat though.....well maybe a raincoat. My boys wont toerate coats, our wolf hybrid takes them off and my special hound freezes in place til you take it off of him. I would post pics but i'm still figuring out my tablet and for now we have no computer. |
dogmom it's super easy but the first time you may look at all the steps and be overwhelmed. For the first couple years I snail mailed my pics to fellow members who then posted them for me..lol. Anyhow I'll walk you through it if you'd like. You can either contact me via email (and send your pics and I can post them for the first time) Marianne |
Izzie has been shaved down in the winter....so she has a blue coat and a pink argyle sweater that we put on her. She doesn't like the coat, but tolerates the sweater. She has become more of a snuggler over time, but one advantage of shaving in the winter when she was younger was that she always wanted to cuddle with you and the blanket |
My mum bought Winston a Barbour coat for Christmas. I thought it was silly because his hair is so long and dense that he's never cold, but then we realized that it's actually a good idea because if it's snowing will keep him dry(er) than without the coat which means less brushing and potential for mats later on! Plus he's so handsome in it |

Hank and I live in Oregon so a raincoat is a must! None really ever fit well AND cover all the important mat-prone areas, so this year I learned to sew (Just for this raincoat) and made him a custom raincoat... |
