A young soldier who lost both of his legs in Iraq is coming home to our neighborhood tomorrow morning. He has been recovering and going through therapy at Walter Reed for the last 9 months, and has been released to spend Christmas with his Family. The chief of Police in our town has organized a true homecoming for this young man. He went to school with my daughter and graduated the year after she did. He lives two streets over from us. Tomorrow morning he will be picked up from the airport in a Limo and driven home for Christmas. Our town is covered with yellow ribbons from the exit on the interstate to his home. Several contractors have donated their time and materials to equip his home so that he can go in his front door. They have also altered the inside of the home so that he can easily get around in his wheelchair. We have been asked to come out and line the streets as he is driven to his front door. So Baley, Baxter and I are going to be in his driveway as he arrives. The boys were chosen to be part of the welcoming group at his home. We are so proud to be a part of this. Please send special thoughts to this young man and his family tomorrow at 11:30 AM! He is truly a Hero! |

What a awesome homecoming for a brave hometown hero. Cindy |
Sending special thoughts of gratitude and appreciation to our American Hero and his family. I hope his homecoming is all that he'd hope it would be. Just wonderful that you and the sheepies will be trying to bring him a smile! Hope he enjoys sheepies as much as we do. |
How wonderful. We just had a soldier who lost both legs welcomed home yesterday. He is walking on prosthetics and got married since he was hurt. He wants to be the first soldier with artificial limbs to serve in a war zone. He is from Indiana and there was a huge Welcome Home for him in his home town. It was on the news last night. |
What a lovely welcome after nine months of, I am sure, hard work at rehabilitation and hard work in the months before that. I hope that Baley and Baxter smother him with sheepie kisses! |
What an honor for you guys ....and how sad for his loss. I bet he'll be thrilled for this homecoming! |
What a great way to pull together and show support for a true hero! Thanks for being a part of the welcome-home celebration and making his Christmas Homecoming a community-wide event. |
how wonderful what a brave soldier! welcome home |
I still cry for the way our country treated our VietNam soldiers, I think this is just wonderful. May your commnity do themselves pround over this returning hero. |
Karen, that is wonderful! I hope the community efforts makes him feel very special and loved for his sacrifice that will last his entire life. Baxter and Baley are bound to cheer him!! |
That's a very touching tribute. It has been very tough on vets, not just the physical wounds, but potential emotional, mental injuries. I can't think of anything more comforting than sheepies to hug! |
The event today was very touching! The boys proudly wore their yellow ribbons and welcomed home our hero! There was a very BIG crowd--so glad so many turned out. I just thought this was a wonderful thing to do for this fine young man. The boys did bring a smile! |
