I've done AHBA, and my old instructor is both an ASCA and AHBA judge (he has aussies, and now his new wive's tervs as well). Not sure if on the inside people have been thinking skeptical thoughts of an OES herding, but all I've heard is people saying how neat it is to see an OES out there herding. They also enjoy seeing the different herding styles of the breeds - we see some good variety around here. I've done ASCA obedience, and we were welcomed. |
I've done a little AHBA and AKC. I prefer AHBA, quite frankly, for the more relaxed attitude, though I have to say the AKC judges were thrilled to see OES (there were three entered that trial) There are some OES out there, but not a lot - WI and MN, primarily, in the Midwest, there's a nice working dog in Maine, a couple elswhere in New England, and some OES competing on and off in Arizona, Califoria and the Pacific Northwest. I think for my first trial I would do AHBA. If there are any AKC trials available, though, go for it. We don't have many around here. In fact, one thing you can do until she's ready for competition is find trials around you, any venue, go and volunteer. I've scribed and timed for both venues and you learn a lot from listening to the judges. Not really familar with ASCA herding, though I've done ASCA agility and love it. Great people. Kristine |
