Mady is known at the dog park as a bit of a puppy whisperer. All the puppies follow her around like, well, like puppies. She is very gentle when she plays with them-they usually come away with hairballs from chewing on her. I have been wondering if they will remember this relationship as they grow up. There is one in particular, a husky/German shepherd mix, that she plays with often. Will this dog remember that Mady was kind to her when she becomes a big fast adult or if she grows up to be an alpha bitch? It has been fascinating to watch how, as this puppy grows, Mady becomes less coddling and gentle and the wrestling matches become more robust. All very good natured, of course. I hope that, when we cross the Rainbow Bridge ourselves we get blessed with real knowledge of these interesting furry friends. |

What a lovely role model. The pup-->adults are learning good doggie manners, no aggression. I believe this will indeed follow them into adulthood and if they see Mady often enough, buds for life. You might strike up conversations with the other owners to try to be at the park at the same times.
Yes, play gets more rough as Mady senses they can "take it." Obviously she's having a blast.
I think dogs do a darn good job talking to us, we just have to put away our "human" side and "think" more basic like a dog. Nothing complicated, just live for the moment, react with caution and in control, play hardy, love completely, sleep soundly.....snore with abandon. |
I think Mady would make a wonderful role model for a new pup |
