Oranges??????
I have them in the living room on the floor for now, since they are huge boxes. Now here is my problem~~  Coz seems to really like the oranges... I found him nibbling his second orange this morning... Does anyone know if oranges are bad for dogs???? |

I think oranges are fine for dogs. Although, too much of anything he's not used to could end up messy  |

My dogs love all kinds of fruit including oranges. My vet has said for years fruit and veggies are good for them. I peel the orange and grapefruit and we usually share. I agree, too much can be VERRRRRRRRRRRY MESSY!!!! Yuk! I would think an orange seems like a ball. A whole new meaning to playing with your food  |
That photo is priceless!  I have never heard of oranges being a problem for dogs. Grapes, raisins, garlic, onions, chocolate, and xylitol, yes, but never oranges. Enjoy your fruit Coz!!!! Laurie and Oscar |
| Don't forget avocados. Avocados are no-nos for a dog. But a few slices of an orange won't bother a dog. Bricky likes oranges. |

| Please tell me he doesn't eat the peel. I've had to wrestle fruit from Jack as he wants to eat them peel and all. While I might let a banana skin go down, surely not an orange peel. |

If avocados are on your list of foods NOT to feed to dogs, why have I seen them being used as ingredients in some dog foods? - Sibyl Avocados can be harmful because they contain Persin, which can cause dogs to vomit and have diarrhea. Therefore the primary concern with dogs eating avocado is gastrointestinal upset. However, some dogs can eat this fruit without having any adverse reactions. In fact, we haven’t heard reports of commercial foods with avocado being dangerous for pets.  |
Rufus can never understand why I take a ball, peel it and then eat it. He begs me to throw it, then always looks for the 'ball' afterwards  I gave him a piece of orange once but he just looked at me like "yes but where's the ball you just had?"  |
Rufus is a VERY smart sheepie!!!!!! and he very cute too!!!!  And yes, Coz nibbles the rind off of the orange and then proceeds to nibble the juicy orange ...... And (so far) no tummy issues from his thievery...   |
| FWIW: What I have found about avacados is that persin is found in the pits, skin, and bark of the tree. It can leach into the fruit meat from the pit and that mostly only large doses have any effect, but that toxic amounts are undetermined. Very good to know, but it doesn't look like much of a threat. Unfortunately, my dogs would probably have explosive trots just out of spite since I said that. Good to know anyway. Shellie |

| bloo had a tiny piece before and spat it out h But he likes carrots and apples.. I think they are okay. At my training classes people feed their dogs bananas and orange and all sorts of fruits, as loong as coz doent eat 100 i wouldnt worry ahaa..   |
| I love the picture! And I just bought a big bag of oranges today so you're giving me ideas...  I always wondered what it was in avocados that caused problems in dogs. Thanks for the info, Shellie. Not a big fan of them personally but I did grow one from a pit as a kid and named the plant "Howard". Probably a sign that I needed another dog.  |
| After all this discussion, I had to try it! I had peeled my orange at the table. Chewie doesn't beg from me at the table, so he wasn't even paying attention. (now Todd - another story - they are on him like vultures~!! )I called him over and fed him a little piece - and he ate it!  He had 2 more pieces, so I know it wasn't a fluke...now to try with the rest of the dogs. Next orange, it's my plan! We got a big fruit box as a Christmas gift from the vet clinic, so we will have PLENTY of opportunity to test this out. |
| Try watermelon next summer. I was eating some this past summer & Brick was looking at me with those eyes. I broke a piece off for him and put it by his mouth. He sniffed it a bit and was real apprehensive about it. But he finally took it (slowly) and gingerly chewed it for a few seconds, as if he was trying to decide if he liked it. After that, he started chomping on it. I swear to God his eyes lit up & got huge, as if he was saying "OMG I LOVE THIS STUFF. GIVE ME MORE!!". Every piece after that, he just woofed down. He also likes cherries. |

Mine love oranges especially in the warmer weather, there apple mad as well less the pips as they contain arsenic, I cut them skin and all into treat chip size with core gone with those pips. and like oranges "Mandarins" is drool time big time too. Watermelon another drool factor here too.  We can add Banannas as well, I think I have a pack of Fruity fur kids. Mangoes another drooly treat too Yep there a fruity mob here. |
