I do it every year & I'm 61! |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but once you reach a certain age you don't have to explain anything... Vance |

Go for it! It is what makes you happy! |
I turned 59 ack ack ack in Nov I am holding on to that age for as long as I can At this age I will do what I want!! and yes vance I do not have to explain myself |
Go for it! It is a fun but subtle way to have some fun with fashion and style. |
Go for it. Some of the "fun-est" nails I see are on women in their 50/60s. So you have many more years to enjoy yourself. Don't forget your toe nails! |
OK! You all put my mind at ease . And Susan, the toes are already taken care of. My niece and I have a monthly girls day out, we get pedis, go to lunch, sometimes a little shopping. We got Christmas pedis yesterday....fun designs! I guess I was a little concerned because we are spending Christmas with her in-laws family, who really are great people. But, Vance, you are right, I've earned the right to not care what people might think! |
Go for it! You are never too old. The poem below sums it up I think. Always been one of my favourites. Warning When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall go out in my slippers in the rain And pick flowers in other people's gardens And learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat And eat three pounds of sausages at a go Or only bread and pickle for a week And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes. But now we must have clothes that keep us dry And pay our rent and not swear in the street And set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practice a little now? So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple. Jenny Joseph |
i love that poem too. I agree, who cares what others think. Does anybody belong to the Red Hat Society? We have a cosmetology class at our school and the local group come to get their hair and nails done and go out to lunch in our Culinary Department. They all deserve it! |
When I am old.... I will wear soft gray sweatshirts.... and a bandana over my silver hair.... and I will spend my social security checks on wine and my dogs. I will sit in my house on my well-worn chair and listen to my dogs breathing. I will sneak out in the middle of a cold winters night and take my dogs for a run, if my old bones will allow... When people come to call, I will smile and nod as I show them my dogs... and talk of them and about them.... ....the ones so beloved of the past and the ones so beloved of today.... I will still work hard cleaning after them, mopping and feeding them and whispering their names in a soft loving way... as I bough my lips to their ears, while gently scratching their soft furry heads. I will wear the gleaming sweat on my throat, like a jewel and I will be an embarrassment to all... especially my family... who have not yet found the peace in being free to have dogs as their best friends..... These friends who always wait, at any hour, for my footfall... and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep, to greet me as if I was a long lost best friend, even tho I had just been with them 2 hours before. With warm eyes full of adoring love and hope that I will always stay, I'll hug their big strong necks... I'll kiss their dear sweet heads... and whisper in their very special company.. how much I love them. I look in the mirror... and see I am getting old.... this is the kind of person I am...and have always been...and am happy to be. Loving dogs is easy, they are part of me and I am part of them. Please except me for who I am. My dogs appreciate my presence in their lives.... they love my presence in their lives and I love being their... When I am old this will be important to me... you will understand when you are old.... if you have dogs to love and be your best friends |
Dark gray glitter is very trendy right now... go for it! |
Vance wrote: Correct me if I'm wrong, but once you reach a certain age you don't have to explain anything... Vance Well said!! Life is too short, it's the little things in life that bring joy to our world and if polishing your nails a certain color makes you happy by all means go for it! |
Is the gray glitter in a polish? Sounds gorgeous! If you like it, go for it!! I am sooo tired of words such as: appropriate, inappropriate, issues, sensitivity, zero tolerance and all the other BS words that makes us crazy and make us doubt ourselves. If you like something, buy it! If you want to do something that will shock people, I'm all for it!! Just because we get older doesn't mean we have to go doudy and dumpy. I did not give up having fun and enjoying things because I'm not 20. We have earned the right to do as we choose and don't need anybodys approval!! How's that grab ya? Try some of the fun sparkly eye highlighter too!!! |
I agree--go for it!! I have a friend who is almost 80 and her nails 'sparkle'--and she looks great! |
I don't ever do fingernail polish....but pedi's and fun toe polish is one of my indulgences! I just went yesterday w/ my friend Mary. We try to go every 5-6 weeks. I got red with red and silver glitter dots over. It's a new OPI holiday glitter - love it! |
I'm 57, and I'm wearing glitter polish right now. And on my toes too. |
