That was one of my favorites in the earliest days of digital photography -- 1997-99 when I had a Sony Mavica, which recorded to floppy disks, and then upgraded to the totally awesome Nikon 990 with the swivel design. Back then, irfanview had some of the best tools for resizing photos. After many years of fairly serious hobby use of Photoshop, I've become fairly reliant on the easy, simple, and fast Picasa. It in no way compares to Photoshop but satisfies my most basic needs of cropping, color, contrast, and uploading to facebook. |

Picasa is my choice. Easy to use for basics. |
If you'd really want to be able to make anything, like a pro, go for GIMP. That's the free counterpart of Photoshop. It's Unix based, has a massive searchable help and allows you to do wonders with your pix. |

I teach a college level multimedia class which includes Photoshop; since my students cannot afford it I always end the lab/lecture with screenshots of gimp. It will take some training to get used to |
