Millie is being a b****

Yep, my sweet Millie is growing up..... and so is her attitude!! 8O Not with me or any of the other uprights, just our other little dog Jack. He is a 16 lb. shih tzu/bichon frise. They have always been great friends and play very well together. Millie is usually very sweet and gentle with him. However, yesterday she was napping next to me on the sofa and Jack was in his favorite spot on top of the back of the sofa. Jack stood up and was walking on the back of the sofa and ended up walking right above Millie who was laying on the seat of the sofa. Well, she snapped at him and he just looked at her for a few seconds and then ran away. No growling, no showing teeth, and no actual contact. Just woke up and snapped at his leg and then stared at him with all of the b**** she could muster. It was like "Take one more step and you'll regret it!". What is that about? :?:

She is currently in season and therefore more clingy with me (typical for her). Is this a "I'm out of sorts and trying to rest" reaction, or is she trying to be a higher ranking pack member, or should I worry about this?

They have been playing and happy together today.

Her hormones might be up and down, has she been like it before? Is the little dog new to the household??
I would just carry on normally as if nothing has happened, someone told me dogs sense our emotions - stress, nerves, excitement etc...
Bloo isnt 1 yet and hes a monster! people say they get worse hehe...
Im not very good at advice, but i hope millie looses her attitude soon hehe :) xx sam xx

Hon, they call them bitches for a reason ;-)

Some bitches can seem a little off while they're in season, others are no different, and some act like they're taking happy pills or something (yes, I've had at least one like this)

Some get so mopey (Sybil can rank) and clingy that you'd think they were suffering the canine equivalent of PMS. This too shall pass. If they aren't feeling 100% they can get crabby. If they are feeling very needy, they can get a little possessive of mom. If they're growing up and into their bitchdom they can remind housemates who actually runs the show...;-)

As long as it's all just trash talk I don't worry about it. I often WANT to intervene, or feel upset on the other dog's behalf - esp if it's a smaller, or a geriatric etc dog who is being told off - but if I think about it calmly for a minute I can usually figure out why it probably was fair and nothing to get too worked up about in dogdom.

Generally speaking it will pass when hormones subside and/or equilibrium is re-established in the "pack".
