Feeling guilty - boarding for the holidays

I just booked holiday boarding for my dogs. We're not going out of town, so I feel super guilty. The dogs can't come with to Dave's grandparents on xmas eve, they can't come with to my parents (because of mean ole Walter) on Christmas morning, and can't go to Dave's aunt/uncle's on Christmas evening.

I wanted to hire someone to stay at home with them but couldn't find anyone I knew. So for the first time I booked them at a boarding facility. I know this facility and the staff (we use them for my rescue) and I know it's not the Ritz... it's loud and they will be in a kennel for most of the day on Christmas. They'll get peanut butter kongs and kuranda beds, but that's about the extent of it.

This will be their first time ever being boarded

aweee...that's how I felt for the first time and couldn't stop talking about it as we celebrated our day :(

I'm sorry!!! It'll be like Christmas for them once you pick them up ...if that helps any ;)
heather,
they don't realize its christmas till you give em their presents.

they'll be fine, really, mine loved it. they were always excited to go there and yes really happy to see ya when you retrieve them.
maybe they'll have conversation about some of those special behaviors. something like"well, this is a fine mess you've gotten us into."

:santa:
When I boarded, my guys had various reactions: "Oh gee, here we go again" to "Oh BOY, we are going to the noisey place where I can bark at everyone!!" I always got the super size kennel and kept mine together . I think it helped them "we are all in this together."

Go enjoy your family and plan on a happy party for your furbabies when you get home.
Ah, if I was in the area I'd be happy to stay with Rudie and be snubbed all day! :D

It may be worth the drive!

They don't like daycare. They are always standing/laying by the door in every picture I see of them and they do backflips when I pick them up. Like I said though I know the owner well and I like her a lot. However, some of her new staff have made mistakes feeding our foster dogs and my friend's dogs who boarded there. I know they had a meeting to discuss the issue, but still worries me.

Also, Dave doesn't know yet... We talked about it but he wanted to find a dogsitter. I booked it because they only had 3 spots left. He is going to be so sad that he doesn't get Marley on Christmas (he's spent every Christmas with her since she was a puppy).

I guess I'll just get them a huge pile of gifts/treats for the 26th to make it up to them. And Dave and I will break out the Baileys early on Christmas
You could always do what I do, refuse to attend if they can't come. :D

Ha, I love it. My parents would love to have them, it's Walter (my other OES that lives with my parents), that won't let them come! It will be nice to spend a nice relaxing day with Wally though.
They don't know its Christmas. Its us humans that get all bent out of shape

Its only a few days...but if you feel you won't enjoy yourself, I would make an excuse to stay home! We don't actually go anywhere unless the doggys come...Mainly because I don't have fun and am worried without them...Humans make things difficult!
I came home today and Rudie had opened the dishwasher and dragged all the dishes out... my guilt is gone.
Ha ha...that is so funny! But, did he put them all away in the cabinet????
They will be fine! Enjoy yourself.

Trust the kennel and have a good time. :santa:

It's better knowing they are in a secure facility even if the place doesn't have all the preferred amenities. We have had to kennel two foster dogs who were like family and even though it was a basic kennel, the place was like Fort Knox. Even a Rude Dog would have trouble escaping or causing trouble. :potstir:

Your peace of mind over the holidays is important and the dogs won't hold it against you. You'll make it up to them later. :hearts:
I wish I could look after them, but the combination of yours PLUS RUFUS would end up in a 5 year Santa ban :santa:
