dog bed stairs?

Our new bed is a lot higher than our old one, and we're looking for some dog bed stairs so Mady doesn't have to jump up and down (yes she can do it fine, but I want her to be used to stairs, she doesn't need to put strain on her joints from this). Any good recommendations?

Custom make your own to fit the bed (and bedroom) exactly! The bed steps I have seen for people are ridiculously expensive and are generally just a single step. The two step "Rubbermaid" step stools aren't ideal because their treads are so narrow Mady could easily miss one on the way down. I've looked at them for Virgil as he can no longer jump up onto my bed even though he still wants to get up for a few minutes each night but I think they are just too risky.

YMMV

I found ours on ebay with paw print carpet fabric (3 steps) but I notice now that every big magazine we get (pet ones of course) carries the same kind. Yuki loves hers and so did our 6lb maltese when we had her. Still looks brand new and I got it over 6 yrs ago.

Yuki did not use it at first. Now that she is getting older, she ALWAYS "chooses" to use it.
I'm with Carl. This way you'll get EXACTLY what you want with the satisfaction of knowing YOU made it just for Mady. And she'll love you even more for that!

I have seen them in the Dr's Foster and Smith catalog. Also ramps for vehicles.
I have an old ottoman next to my bed that Izzie and Taylor both use. It is quite large, at least 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. So keep in mind that is always an option too.
we actually have stairs from a gymnastic set. our bed is very high, we call it
the White House Bed

anyway... our mini poodle HAS to use them

Cambridge hasn't figure out how to get up even WITH them yet.

I thought sheepies were good jumpers!!!
After reading about a tibetan terrier who became paralized from jumping off a bed at 2 years, I ended up buying a very sturdy set that is carpeted and very heavy for mt house as bed is really high...if you have hardwood floors you don't want them to move...I would think for an OES you would want them wide as possible. Rosie uses them up and down but Maggie goes up them and still wants to jump down. The great set in the mountain home cost 150.00 but bought a cheaper set for GA house and they are basically plastic and not as stable...works okay on carpet but dogs don't like using them...Rosie waits for me to stand by them before going up or down. She knows she's going on 12.still working on getting Maggie not to jump down. Well worth the money as having a dog hurt would cost a whole lot more plus having them in pain would hurt me...they really are priceless in the long run. Both my OES's never slept on our bed but seemed to love the cool floor but were always nearby. My two little TT's have to lay next to a body...Rosie told Maggie she gets my shoulder and Maggie stays by my feet...if Rosie moves Maggie sneaks up to my shoulder...think it's a game with them...don't know how I could sleep if we had two OES's in bed. Used to laugh when I would catch OES in bed with daughter accidently...she would look at me and slink down from the bed knowing she wasn't suppose to be on the bed. Daughter was allergic to hair but of course couldn't stay away from her dog. :) You really get what you pay for on the stairs.

As for the suggestion that we build our own, well, we are just not handy people and someone could get hurt! Mady doesn't sleep in our bed, she just comes up for a snuggle before we go to bed. I had a bit of a tantrum about this last night, as I tried in vain to get the SAND OUT OF MY BED!! David thinks that I am a princess and that the sand is a figment of my imagination. But you can actually see it. It looks like sand because it is sand!! Grrrrrr. I am considering separate bedrooms. Mady can sleep with me, on the floor next to the bed. David can continue to sleep in his sandbox bed.
ahhhh. and the Mady, Madys Mom, and Madys Dad Saga continues..... :yay:
your local home improvement or even lumberyard chain store should have a two or three tread stairset that could be used. measure the bed height before you go and tell them what it's for, since you won't be attaching to the bed, stairset will need bracing between the stringers. they should have some narrow carpet that could be cut the width of stair treads. shouldn't be to expensive or heavy. 8)
oohhhh. great idea!!
a lot like what we have

Except the guy I got it from wanted to know exactly the height of my bed, etc so he can make it perfect ...and he made the steps wider. I'm sure anyone who custom does these wood.

That link I posted may even be the guy who made oours. Can't remember. He did it for free while mr. j was in iraq.
I like Melissa/Amanda's idea of a big foot stool...I can really see that working.
Something I would see and be less likely to stub a toe on too!
And handy to use yourself while putting socks on, etc.
yikes mrs j,
i am impressed. what a guy. :cow:
We need dog stairs too--I really like those Mrs. J--I agree a little wider would be better.
Check Petsmart - I was there on the weekend and they have some nice ones. 8)
