sheepie hair

Bloo is 8 months and a week old now, and his hair should be long enough to top knot, however we had him trimmed at 5 months and they cut it too short.. so now its just like it was at 4 months short and stiky upy everywhere :P
Are clips just as good???

My mom always says ` dont put tht silly thing on his head, we will book him in for a trim at the groomers`.. i dont want to ruin his fringe again. But he keeps walking into things :) He so CANNOT see, whatever people say hehe :D

:?: :?: I dont know which road to turn down... trim the fringe like before, hair clips or top knot( though ive tried top knot butits too short) :?: :?:

What are your favourite ways of making sheepies see where they are going hehe xx:)

I love seeing Benson's beautiful eyes, and we always used little barrettes before we could top-knot.

Her hair is still too short for a single knot, so we do 3 of them (Hubby calls her a triceratops). If I'm not around, he still uses barrettes, because he never gets the rubber bands tight enough, and he can put them in before she squirms too much.

If you're worried about him looking too "girly" just get plain black or white barrettes. You'll barely notice them.
awww bless.. adorable..

barettes might do the trick, ive tried top knotting but its just too short and if i manage he will wiggle around and it ends up falling out! :)

Might be worth a try thanks x

Hair clips? not sure what the UK translation is on that one!

Usually plastic or metal, to hold hair back out of your face.
I like barettes when the head coat is too short for elastics.
You can even use two or three small barettes across the top of the head when it is quite short. But some dogs will leave them in and others are not so tolerant and want to pull them out.

The other thing I have had success with is purchasing some of the tiny elastics that look like the kind that orthodontists use. You can grab a really short piece of head coat with them and they stay put pretty well.
I believe I bought them online and got a huge package that has lasted for years for under $10. I would try to google grooming elastics or grooming bands to find them. You can even do three across with these elastics when the head coat is very short and just grab a tiny bit of coat with each one. If there is 5 months of growth the coat should be long enough by now. Yes, "triceratops" would be a good description.

One final suggestion while letting it grow out on top is to thin the coat out in front of the eyes while leaving it to grow long above. Sometimes I use thinning shears (rounded end only for safety!!!) to take out enough of the fur in front of the eyes to allow the dog to see well. You can also cut out a small "V" over the eye to permit the dog to see. These dogs HAVE to be able to see! They will run into something full tilt and can really hurt themselves if they can not see. They are not usually cautious enough by nature to slow down if they can't see! I learned my lesson the hard way. One day at the park my two OES were having a blast chasing each other all over. Dog one was in the lead and running really fast when dog two decided to take a shortcut and head them off at the pass so to speak. But they did not see the huge trash can in their path and ran into it at full speed. They never saw it. They crashed and fell and at first I thought they were unconscious and really hurt badly. After a few moments they got up and were just dazed. But ever since then I have been very sure my dogs can all see very well. -Linda Z

i also learned my lesson the harder way, i was the trashcan.
dont even know why i just called them barettes either haha... but yes they are just what we call hair clips,
thanks everyone for your lovely stories and such wonderful help, im talking my mom around bying a bunch of all sorts for bloo hehe... he is going to look awesome!
Thanks a lot :)
We'll be putting Caitlyn in top knots as soon as it's long enough. Being as we're showing her, we won't be trimming that hair so top knots are the way.
