Lots and lots of places, to see lots of other people and lots of other dogs. It is so important to socialize while they are young, expose them to different situations, smells, noises, people touching her, dogs sniffing her etc... and try to make them all positive experiences.
I think my biggest mistake with Dancer when she was a pup was that I coddled her way too much. If she acted anxious or nervous about a situation or place I would say "oh it's ok, good girl" BIG mistake! I showed approval, which meant to her "I am worried, and Mom says I am right to be worried" You need to remain non chalant about all those situations, so that the dog sees it is no big deal, nothing to fuss over. |
