It is considered an eye emergency and needs prompt treatment or else worse things happen: glaucoma, cataracts, retina detachments or blindness. So use the drops! No, I've had dogs with eye problems but not this. to you and Cubby. |
Awww poor Cubby! Hang in there with the drops. When is his recheck? |
I don't know what this was diagnosed as back in 2006... I can check if you'd like me to. She was looking up in the end picture so it looks a little different. Kaytee's eyes never started out "normal". We had her on/off/on dexamethasone eye drops because the redness would return. Then the eye clouded so we made an appointment with a specialist at MSU. They checked eye pressure and did what was probably an ultrasound... it was something they put on the eye balls (she had two a the time) and looked at a monitor. Sorry I'm not very much help technically. After the visit, we gradually tapered her off and she hasn't had the problem since. As mentioned, keep up with the drops as directed by the specialist. I know you just want some idea as to where this is going though. Is Cubby in pain because of the condition and has he lost vision? This is a good book if you need a resource on adapting to life with a low vision or blind dog- "Living With Blind Dogs: a resource book and training guide for the owners of blind and low-vision dogs" by Caroline D. Levin. If they think Cubby's condition might be autoimmune related, be sure to discuss any vaccinations with a specialist before having them done. Best wishes to Cubby. |
Cubby is not in pain, he is not blind and otherwise he is acting playful and eating ok and the drops are working, I just dont know if he has to be using them for life, just wanted to have an idea. It is his immune system attacking his own eyes. At least its not cancer, vet did say it could be the cause. he is rechecking in week. thank you guys |
My Kate is at the vet's right now and the preliminary dignosis is glaucoma, but all of her symptoms have me questioning if it is Uveitis. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. Her brown eye is fine. Her blue eye is red and the blue is almost brown. Her eye does seem a bit bulgy. So my question is, how do yo uknow if it is Uveitis or Glaucoma. I know it's bothering her because she doesn't like when I lightly touch the outer part of her eye, she's been rubbing it and there is some drainage (dark stuff on her coat)? |
Vet has to do several tests. I had to bring Cubby to an eye specialist because regular vets didn't know. His eye pressure was very low. His blue eye was brown and could not keep it open until I gave him the drops (flurbiprofen and prednisolone), the vet said that because the drops helped him it was likely to be uveitis due to his immune system attacking the uvea of his eyes. Hope it helped a little |
