Do you do your own grooming

I do my own and enjoy doing it. But I know not everybody does.

Could you add a sometimes? Sometimes I do it, sometimes they go to a groomer.
Done.
I do almost all of my own grooming and every once in a while send the Carl to the groomer for a good shaping.
i do my own :D
Yep and always will. I tend to be really particular about my pet's grooming - probably left over from my pet grooming years! lol
I have them done at the groomers only 1 time a year. The rest of the time I do it my self. I am fortunate that we have a self serve dog wash near us and so I can do it without breaking my back or wearing out my knees. I think it is important to do your own dogs for several reasons, but the most important is that you are intouch with your dogs health and can watch things as they develop. Tyler, my old boy has several lumps and bumps on him. I have watched them develop over the years and know about them and ask the Vet about them. I would also see any changes in them or his behavior that I wouldn't notice if someone else groomed him.... So I'm in favor of self grooming....
I ALSO DO MY OWN GROOMING...I AM GETTING BETTER AT IT, HOWEVER, PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE CAN TELL THAT I DO IT MYSELF..OOPS...NOT BAD THO, SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST OES AND NEVER TOUCHED SHEARS BEFORE...I DID READ IN ONE OF THE OTHER FORUMS ABOUT CUTTING THE UNDER COAT AND NOT THE TOP COAT...HOW DO YOU DO THAT? I JUST USE THE SHEARS WITH A 1/4 INCH GUARD ON IT...IS THERE ANOTHER TOOL TO USE JUST FOR THE UNDER COAT...LIVING IN ARIZONA ILL DO ANYTHING TO KEEP PANDA COOLER....ADVICE PLEASE....THANKS...DARCY
Voted. :D

I've been doing my own grooming with my 2 girls and they love it :D . I sort of play a game with them, I shave one a bit - give them a biscuit - play with them in the yard and then do the same with the other one. As this takes quite a few hours on a Saturday (and a fortune in biscuits) I find that with a lot of aptience and a lot of treats, they are always willing and happy to jump on the table and let themselves be shaved :D .

When its bath time, believe or not - they jump in the tub and can't wait to be washed and they really enjoy it :D .

When I'm doing all this, I like to talk to them slowly but I have to learn to keep my mouth closed when I'm near their faces otherwise I get the biggest French kiss you've ever seen  and boy are they wet and sloppy.

They may be hairy, smelly sometimes and a lot of other things but when I'm finished with them, they are my little great smelling princesses that you just want to hug forever :) .

I just shaved Dallas last weekend and will posting pics real soon.

Uncle Pete :D
I do my own, too.....even it's a hard job to me (i hardly to manage a 65kg Sheepie for its bath by myself)

Enjoy still !!!!!
65 Kilos?

143 pounds?

Oh my! What a big dog! Take a picture next to something or some people so we can see just how big he is!

Are you sure you don't mean 65 pounds? If not, at 6 months, he's breaking a world record for size!
Sometimes when I can't get a huge mat out, Beau goes to a groomer. He is not the best client that they have ever had  It took two of them to hold him down and one to shave underneath is chin.

Lol. That's why you pay them! The last time I picked them up, I asked how Clyde was and only got a laugh from the groomer in response. That's how I know I'm getting my money's worth.

  HOOHOO...you're right.....i was too sleep when I posted this message !!!!
Thank goodness! I thought we had a giant!
Beau is terrible with the groomers. He's had diarehhea the last two days. I just bought a new rug for the family room. I guess he thought he would break it in for me. He knows what the hose is use for. (squirting his behind off) If he's not any better by tomorrow, I'll take him into Dr. Wilson's office. My poor baby
I did my own. Had 7 adults at one time and they all got scissor cuts 2 (sometimes 3) times a year. Gotta be careful with scissors, or your male may become a female, and your female may not have boobies for babies. Why not the clippers you ask, well they got too hot, the clipper cooler stuff made them hotter, so I got more done and faster without the $200 worth of clipper equipment. :x

Hard on the back, but the one on one time was worth it. Neighbors always knew when I had the scissors. I'd have 7 dogs running around with legs cut on one, the head cut on one, the entire body cut on one, etc...until we were finished. Gave them breaks in between, hence the different cuts. (Cuts = hair that was removed - not the results of injuries.) They'd sleep while I did all the work!

Miss my babies, but sure don't miss the back aches.
lmao pam I can picture your dogs playing in the yard in various stages of nekkedness. Still not sure how to get Bubba to let me take care of his feet and privates tho. what worked for you? its the only time he doesn't like me. can you email me or pm me?
thanks
cher
Been doing my own since Frank & Rebecca came along but it is quite time consuming as I have crappy water pressure & a second-hand dryer. I now think that every penny I paid to the groomer before was well worth it!
I usually do my own grooming. I have had a few disasters though. I always clip Frodo myself. But have sent Smeagol to the groomer, as I had hoped to keep him in full coat. Last time he went his undercoat was very matted and he had to be clipped which broke my heart. But it will soon grow again.and hopefully I wil be able to keep the mats out.

Chris Frodo and Smeagol
I do my own. Right now it takes about an hour to brush out Barney - 11 mo, full coat. Maggie - 2 yrs - still has many mats from her previous owner and I'm spending about 1 hr each day just working on the mats. Just got a rake yesterday, so hopefully the rest will go faster.
grooming? What's grooming???? I have never done it myself and never will.. I always take my pooch to the doggie spa.
Do my own, Remy has only been to a groomer once. They did a great job, but we just can't afford it.

I'm gonna take her to Laundro-Mutt...a self grooming place, you use their water, doggie tubs, and tools etc...and it will be easier on my back. It costs $30 if it takes me all day.
Daisie...I love that name...laundro-mutt....lol..we have the same thing here, but its called smelly dog....they also offer whats called a "we'' wash..$25.00 vs the $15 for your own wash
I do my own grooming, well my husband does the bathing (he gets Sammy cleaner than I do) and I do all the rest. I have a friend that owns a dogwash service and she has offered to do him if I get stuck.
I generally groom Daisy myself, but ocassionally take her to the groomers for a bath/ brush (she is 9 mos old and in full coat) just so that she is used to someone else handling her. I expect that next summer I will probably have her clipped when it gets hot, but love the coat meanwhile.

I also let them trim her nails, have never been comfortable doing that although I know it's not a big deal. Hated trimming nails on my 2 legged babies also, but did it anyway. With Daisy, it's easier to take her to a groomer.
Wow! I can't believe that I'm only 1 of 7 people who voted that they take their OES to the groomers. I'm very impressd with all of you who groom your own. Annie goes for a bath and some of cut (touch up or full cut) about every 4 weeks. I do comb her in between and trim her beard myself when it gets too long. Just doing that is quite difficult as she hates her muzzle and paws being touched. We're all over the place and I have to really hold these parts of her body down.

If I didn't have the fibro and all my muscle problems, I would consider doing it myself. Hubby is so busy with work and school that he won't do it unless I were to beg and plead...just not worth it. As long as we can continue to afford the groomer, we will go there. My pampered pooch!
We do our own grooming. I say "we" as my daughter is taking on more of this chore.

I agree that the grooming ritual keeps you in touch with your dog's overall health.
Well, I do all the grooming in our house! Kiara is a Chow/Pit Mix so her hair doesn't need clipped but washing takes longer then Ben!

Ben loves the shower (I have a walk-in so, I jump in with him) Then blow then I break out the scissors! No blades here!

I do have sheep shears 8O that were loned to me by my breeder, haven't had the need to use them yet! But they do on Ben's Mom and Dad.....say they work the best for them!
