New OES Owners - Cost of Grooming?

Hello There,

I have a 3 month old OES. How much is a typical grooming when their full grown?

I think it varies greatly, and if you do a search using the search tool at the top of the forum, you will find many threads covering this, perhaps find something in your area as well.
Even to do it myself, aside from the time, there is the investment of good grooming equipment, which although a large investment at first, is well worth it, probably saves money in the long run, and my dogs and I enjoy our grooming time together.
Hendrix's Mom: I love your avatar. Hendrix's racoon mask is so cool. He looks like Gene Simmons from KISS in full makeup!
I just had Truman shaved in anticipation of the hot summers we have here. They left his head shaggy! He looks like the village idiot! My husband says he may take him back and have them trim his head down because he looks like a lion (and he DOES!)

Anyway, this cost $60 plus tax. Usually they do a good job but this time - yikes!!
And there's the difference. Deskwench paid 60 bucks plus tax for a shave job. I pay 60 dollars and tax for a bath and full brush out for my spastic dog who is curently in 13 inches of coat.

It varies by groomer and location. My groomer used to show OES so it probably isn't that big a deal for her. A groomer about 3 blocks away wants about 115 dollars and has never even seen an OES in person. (But she's very excited to get the chance to work on one! Yeah and I'll be right there. )

Make sure you get different prices from different people and be sure to ask if they've done this type of dog before.

You surely aren't referring to Carl, are you :D Prices vary, I've paid between $50=$90 and you can't always judge the quality by the price.
Carl=Spastic OES extraordinaire!
There are some advantages to living in the middle of nowhere, also known as hicksville. I have a WONDERFUL groomer who I have used for almost 20 years (not the same dog :D ), she charges $30.00 for the WORKS. Didn't realize how lucky I was til reading this.
If you are talking about the cost of grooming including basic maintenance of a clipped down dog, you could buy yourself a decent set of clippers for around 100.00, nail clippers for 15, (you would already have to buy your brushes etc for at home even if you go to a groomer so that is not an extra expense). If a dog is well brushed, clipping to a puppy cut is not difficult, and it is even easier to shave right down (that way it is even all over) and wait 4 weeks for it to look like a puppy cut.
Your clippers, if taken care of (cleaned, oiled) can last 10-15 years or more.
I had a pair last 9 years, but that included shaving down an oes 2 times a year, plus giving my two boys hair cuts at least three or four times a year, and my husband has wanted his head shaved down on occasion as well. They weren't even a very good pair.
Not to mention friends who have a poodle, or some other kind of dog who have asked me to shave down their dog once in a while.
I think it is more relaxing for the dog if you do it yourself, they are at home, comfortable with you, and get used to clippers fairly quickly.
Last time to shave Dancer down I think it took a couple of hours, we took breaks in between sections though. If I did it from start to finish, maybe 30-60 minutes.
Thanks everyone for the tips. I will definitly shop around when it comes for a body trim. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off, so I needed some prices in mind.

ButtersStotch: Thanks for the complement on the picture! Everyone says he looks like a superhero with a mask and his body is half black and white, so it looks like he has a cape on!
