We are in a relatively rural area (more animals than people in the last census), and since we rent, we are limited in what we can apply to the yard. Plus, we have two small children, an elderly and very sickly dog, and a 6 month old puppy all living next door. I don't want to risk exposing them to anything potentially nasty either. I've heard of using sprays with neem oil, or rose geranium and lavender oils? |

Ticks dont like minty or herby smells. You can make a spray or collar dip by using upto 20 drops of any of the following oils, choose 3, use the ones that smell nice to you, you have to live with your dog! Lavender, rose geranium, eucalyptus, cedarwood, citronella, tea tree, neem, peppermint, theres probaly more! You can either add 20 drops to 100ml oil and put on the collar Or you can make a spray. With an average sized spray bottle put a tablespoon of vodka in it then add 20 drops total of essential oils you can use just one type but no more than 3. After you have added the oils to the vodka you need to shake for a week, as oil and water dont mix you have to mix them in a medium. After a week, longer t&e better, you can make your next one now! Fill the bottle with water and shake well before use. Do not spray on painted surfaces. If you have cats do not use tea tree. You can also try companion planting and use the plants of the essential oils either planted or get them, break up and scatter. All of the above does nit kill ticks just deters them |
