I am finding it fun and definately keeping me reading. If we want to continue, how about something not dog themed or related? I was thinking "The Hunger Games"? |
|
Still interested! I have read The Hunger Games (and the rest of the trilogy) and really like it. Am not opposed to reading it again. |
Just haven't had time so I guess I'm out |
Hunger games sounds good. I just wasn't interested in reading a sad book where animals are abused etc. I couldn't do it. Nancy G |
I read the books, but just couldn't find anything additional to add to the discussion. |
I'm still in but the last book was too sad for me to read. Never heard of The Hunger Games. What's it about? |
Okay...I understand everyone not wanting to read a book about a dog who dies at the end. I didn't personally like the book myself The Hunger Games is completely differnt and not about dogs at all...It is a "young adult" book, found under the young adult section if you re buying it....But in my opinion, it is anything but young adult material! Hear me out when I talk about what its about...It is a so called sci fi book - although I didn't find it sci fi at all as I hate sic fi - but it takes place in Panem, a country that came to from what was North America..Panem is made up of "districts", andevery year the Capitol has a drawing and randomly selects 12 names ( one from each district) and those "tributes" have to go into "war" so to speak, and the last one remaining is the Victor... It sounds terrible. But the book grabs you in from the first few pages...A real page turner...You will not want to put it down! Just heard they are making a movie for release on 2012....I read the book but will read it again. I LOVED it the first time around... I promsie...no dogs...no tissue needed...no scary murders...but will kep you up reading at night as its a book you cannot put down! Anyone in? |
I'm sorry that I missed the last book. Just couldn't find the time. It's such fun, and a great idea. I'll try to make the next read. |
Uh, Hunger Games does have a lot of disturbing violence. The tributes ( a male and a female from each district, chosen from those between 12 and 18 years of age) fight to the death until there is a single winner. For the entertainment of everyone else. Aside from that, reality is pretty harsh for everyone, except those privileged few in the Capitol. It's a good book, well written and thought provoking, but I don't want anyone to be misled about violence. Highly recommend. |
Not at all my cup of tea, I'll pass this one and wait for another. Still interested in the book club! |
I'm still in. Being so busy I don't get to finish the books as fast, but I do finish them. Not sure I'm interested in book with too much violence. At the same time I'd love to read a good sci-fi book, so I'm willing to give it a try. |
I am still very interested in the Book Club--but the Hunger Games is not one that I really want to read. My husband read the book and I started it but just wasn't my thing. I will read most any type of book--except Sci-Fi--that is just not my thing. You can't please everyone every time--I will wait for the next read! |
I have it from the library - same request as the current book. I'll be packing it along to work tomorrow! So, yes, still in. |
Downloaded it on my ereader last night and have finished the first chapter. So I'm in for this book. Just one suggestion, maybe we should wait a month before we start talking about it that way people will have a chance to finish the book before discussion begins. |
A month is WAY too long for me. I read tons of books and it will be ancient history for me by then. It is quite addicting - started it this morning at work while my client was sleeping and I'm already on page 175.....needed to stop! I'm already half way through it. It's a real fast read. In fact I need to request the 2nd book in the series online from the library |
I'm still in, have to pick up the last book at the library this week but I am not going to read it. Carl might as he likes animal stories and is more able to handle the sad things than I am. I put Hunger Games on request so will read it when I get it, if it's after the others are done that's fine. |
I'm in too. Just can't read sad stories, I can't even watch certain commercials without tearing up Hunger Games sounds great! Let me know when we are starting that book. |
Okay...let'start the read of The Hunger Games...yes, I already finished it and actually am on the final one of the series...I found The Hunger Games absolutely and totally engaging and a tru page turner for me. yes, there is some violence and the whole plot was a bit disturbing...But once you start reading it, I couldn't put it down...For those who are in on this book, start reading. We'll discuss in ten days? That should be long enough...I finished the book in a week. It was that addictive! I think it will make for a great discussion...I didn't really see it as a Sci_fi at all! And the tributes killing each other to live...well, that was disturbing but the Capitol did most of the killing..so much to discuss....a thought that came to my mind was...these kids were sort of like our young men and woman going to war...being forced to kill complete strangers to stay alive and hoping they will winn so their families back home will live a little better...Just a thought...can't wait to discuss with everyone once completed! |
I missed the whole 2nd book due to travelling! |
I'm still interested in the book club. Didn't have time to get to the latest book, The Hunger Games. I'm sorry. Will hopefully be able to participate with another book. I've never participated in a book club before this one. Is there a protocol to bring about discussion, debate and additional commentary? It seems once I'm finished with the book, which I read really quickly then I don't really retain that much. Only highlights. |
I've read them so I'm in - I just need to remember to check this section of the forum - oops! |
