Certainly sounds like allergies. You want to avoid hot spots, where bacteria can get a foothold. I see you're in New York, so maybe it's something that's growing right now, or maybe a fall mold. You said she's been sheep herding, so maybe it's something she encountered there. She's allergic to the sheep! Have you recently turned on your heat? If so, could be something in your ducts, or dry skin from lack of humidity. I would give her a bath in something mild, and dry her completely. I use Douxo Chlorhexidine PS shampoo on Oscar once a week, and it's really good at keeping his skin issues down to a dull roar, as it contains an anti-bacterial. If you bathe her, use luke-cool water as opposed to luke-warm, as luke warm or warmer only aggravates already inflamed skin. (We learned this from Oscar's dermatologist.) It couldn't hurt to try Benadryl too. If none of this helps, I would take her to the vet, as they are in the best position to figure out whether or not this is an allergy. Laurie and Oscar |
