I'm new to the thyroid issues. Why would they get regulated then a year later drop again. We only saw a tech today not the vet, so I couldn't run it by him. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |

The thyroid may be failing and down to a new low. You want to keep her regulated as best as possible........Glacier, due to her breed and age, did better at a lower overall level.....she was kept just above "low". There's no telling why the readings bounce around but shows how important regular blood tests are.......I assume they asked you when she had her pill before testing because that can affect the reading. |
We give one and a half pill. two times a day...I try to give the pills as close to 12 hours apart as possilbe as its my understnading, after 12 hours the thryoid starts todimish so if you have a low thrypoid problem, you want to give the pills as close to the 12 hour inteval as possible. Hope I make sense! |
Yep, Glacier was 6-6 on her pills. Amazing how she could tell time......only when we added other pills to the evening did she begin to balk......."no way I'm taking those larger pills." |
It is entirely possible that Mattie's thyroid levels have dropped, as thyroids are a pain in the patoot to regulate, which is why they like to re-check the blood every so often. Other than the 2.3 lb weight gain, are you seeing any other symptoms, like lethargy, or behavioral issues? I do have a question though. Why would the vet increase the evening dose, instead of the morning dose? Wouldn't you want her thyroid more active during the day, rather than when you are all trying to sleep? Laurie and Oscar |
Thanks for everyones input on this. Laurie they originally had the dose switched around, but I wanted to be here with her when we increased it incase she had a reaction. I plan on going back the other way in a few days. As for Matties energy levels. She's the queen of laziness. She has never had much energy. So I have never been sure if it's her health or just her. My prior sheepie was on throid pills also. We had his thryoid checked often as they can change even on meds. Also don't ever hesitate to question your vet, they to can make mistakes. When we had moved to our new home we had to find a vet. When he was reviewing my dogs chart he wanted to change his dosage and I argued with him about his logic, it soon became apparent he was looking at an old out of date record of our dog. You know your dog best if you sense any change in him, get him re tested bet you his levels have moved. Good Luck |
