OES puppy & senior OES dog, experiences?

Our family has been debating on getting an OES puppy. We have an AMAZING 9 year old OES now and were thinking that it would be a good idea. Does anyone have any experience with this? Was it a good idea? Did it work out?
Our 9 year old loves hanging out with people more than dogs. However he has occasional play dates with a family member's lab... they get along great and seem to enjoy each other's company. Just little concerns here and there, since our dog is somewhat arthritic and when they run so hard outside- he ends up getting sore the next day.

Pearl was over 10 when we got Heart. (we have a middle dog that we got when Pearl was 7)..I feel it keeps the oldster young..even if they want to sleep, they can't with a puppy trying to play.

I have had very positive experiences when getting another dog as the 1st dog is aging. I would do it again and again.
Good your dog is social with other dog(s). Otherwise I wouldn't suggest bringing in a puppy. Some sheepies enjoy the company, others, like mine resent any new dog. How does your dog do at the dog park? You might want to try it out.

It just depends on the dog. I don't dare bring in a new dog now with old Grumpy MO....iffy with Jack. Harry has always been my social butterfly so I suspect he'd accept a newbie....maybe, at least he'd have the manners to walk away, the others would snap.
when i brought derby in my daytona was 10 and really just ignored the pup they were never really friends but daytona did not like too many dogs.. at 13 i brought in duffy and poor duffy got attacked twice it all depends on the dog i think
Our Maggie was starting to get rather frail at age 12 when we brought Nelson in as a puppy. She wasn't thrilled. We were lucky that Nelson was the most mellow pup in the litter and although we thought we wanted another female, we took the sage advice of the breeder and took the laid-back guy. Never have regretted it.

Maggie lived about another year and was generally annoyed with the pup but he didn't give her too much grief. Trust your breeder to help pick the puppy suited best to your family, including other pets.
We always have a full spectrum of ages here :lmt:

Right now we have 12, 13, 6, 6, 5, and 2. And a new puppy coming in a couple months. :D :D

We also have fosters of bassets and OES popping in periodically. So our gang is pretty used to it.
I do work really hard to give all the dogs their own special times and training and activities, so the love and attention gets spread around. That really does help!
Sherwood our Lab was 12 when we got Georgi. She jumps on his head bites him and will not leave him alone most of the time he don't mind & plays with her. But when he wants to rest we have to take her out of the room & then she starts woofing, another bad habbit she has picked up from him :headbang:
