Last month I worked late(7:00pm) and when I left I was tired. I park in the parking garage at work and since it was later then normal there weren't that many cars around. I did a quick glance over my shoulder and backed out...SLAM!...poop where did that post come from? I did pull off to the side to see what damage I did. There is a tire on the back of the jeep and I thought I must have just hit that. Well, by gosh and by golly I did hit the tire...and dented the under part that holds the tire on. So now it sits a little crooked on my jeep. Its not that bad, hardly noticable says the person who gave me the price it would take to be fixed...$2000.00. I say just leave it, DH says get it fixed. What do you think? |

I think we need a picture |
I think you should fix it, but get more estimates. |
What Mark said. |
Pictures would be good and more estimates. If it is just cosmetic,(not noticable) and doesn't affect anything mechanical, I'd leave it alone. How fast was the post going when it hit you? |
Don't rule out used parts either. They made a TON of Libertys. A good spare tire carrier off of one should be easy to find. |
Hate it when that happens! I hit a deer (a huge one) two weeks ago. I totally smashed the front end of my van. Vic and I do all our own work on the cars though (dear lord am I lucky!) and we were able to get everything we needed from a U-pull-it auto yard. If it's something you might tackle yourself - go for it. My repairs would have well exceeded the value of the van, but I did it myself for just under $300. (and btw- you clearly don't have to be terribly smart to do your own repairs, we all know a putz or two who make a living at it ) If you were close I'd do it for you for cost! Shellie |
It's relatively a new car, so I think you should fix it. More estimates, and hope that working late meant overtime At least no other car was involved. |
I assume for that price there must be body work needed as well. I love the idea of finding the body panels in a "junk yard" and maybe even the right color so no paint is needed. As long as the connection points weren't bent! |
