Kitchen Mural Help!!!!
We had a stoned tiled mural behind the range as a back splash. It was a hand painted repro of Renoir's Luncheon at the Boating party. The artist did a wonderful job and it was in the same tiles as our backsplash, tumbled marble...got burnt in the fire... I am now deciding on a back splash mural again for behind the range. But not sure I want the same thing....so been looking and looking and looking...I am crazed!!!! Can't find something...any suggestions? Should I go with the original....should I go with more of a tuscany scene...should I go with more of a wine motiff....  |

Tuscan is slowly falling out of the decor realm, think something more updated (tho I admit, I like Tuscan). As much as you loved your former kitchen, it's a few years out of date now. Read somewhere you should update every 15 years  |
| In all seriousness (although I think SHEEPDOGS should remain on the table), I used to do mural painting. We specialized in children's rooms, but did the occasional kitchen. A mural should reflect something YOU personally enjoy. If you visit Tuscany and are in love with the place, then go Tuscan. If you enjoy hitting the vineyards, then a wine motif would be appropriate too. But if your fascination is boating, a good muralist will find a way to involve sailboats in your kitchen mural, even if it sounds out of style or just dead-on weird. I'd find your muralist FIRST- a good one will be able to help walk you through the decision making process, showing you samples of their work that may help sway your decision making process. |
| are you going to paint it or have it done on tiles? the latest trend is small(er) subway tiles...glass or ceramic..you can use a pencil tile around the outside edge and use different types of tile inside that pencil tile square... |

| My kitchen prior was only two years old - a complete gut and done over with the Tuscany theme. So, in NY, the tuscany theme is still very much alive and well! We are only doing it again due to a fire that took out the entire kitcehn and rest of the house... My first mural/backsplash behind the range was a repo of Renoir's Luncheon at the Boating party...I love art and it fit in with the kitchen idea as it is a bunch of people sitting around enjoying a meal but in the like early century...Its just for the backsplash of the range. The rest of the kitcehn is tumbled marble in a subway tile shape...I really need to post pix! My thought this time is to have the same painting done but instead of the terrier dog the woamn is holding, make it a OES! The mural/backsplash is done on tumbled marble tiles. handpainted by a loal artis who can paint antyhing I want. |
