Belching up water

How do you correct this belching/vomitting water after they drink too fast? My boy comes in from running and goes t all the water bowls, drinks everything up and two seconds later out it comes :cow:

I've tried making him wait a few minutes after he runs...I've tried taking up the water dish a few minutes - although he ALWYAS finds the one I left down by accident...

How long is enough time to wait to avoid this? He is in good health otherwise and there is never a chance he ate something that got stuck. He drinks like there is no tomorrow but in spurts...all at once and then nothing for hours

Oscar used to do this as well. I only have one dog, so it makes it easier, but basically, I limit the amount of water he can get at any given time. For Oscar, it's about 10-12 oz. If he licks every last drop, I wait about 15 minutes, and put another 8-10 oz in the bowl. There is never more than 12 oz in his bowl at a time. After starting this years ago, he's never thrown up water since.

Kobuck drank too much too and would bring it back up. We found picking up the water for 1/2 to 1 hour after hard play, then monitoring water intake when it's put back down works. It allows them time to cool/calm down. Putting him in a room by himself with a limited water source would work too if you're living with multiples.
Ru does this too. I have non-spill bowls which have a kind of plastic plate with a dip in the middle that floats, so there is only a small amount of water visible. This helps, of course he can drink as much as he wants like that, but its a little slower. I take the bowl up if he's had quite a lot & try not to put too much water out at once.

Ru has also learned the 'that's enough' command so he walks away from the water long enough to rest between drinking.
