Poor Bella. Probably just a muscle strain. Good luck keeping her quiet for a day or two. Laurie and Oscar |
Watch for torn CCL and hope to hell not! Especially since she's in agility training. Even with a soft tissue injury it takes longer to heal than you would think so I would play it conservatively as best you can, been there, done that. That doesn't mean crating her unless she's nuts, but it may mean leashwalking her for a while Hope she's better soon. Kristine |
Yes, Kristine, I am leash walking her. We had this type of injury before. She is walking okay now but I know to rest her a day or two anyway...Poor Girl. She is so active and so loves to run around...Luckily its raining so they wouldn't have gone running anyway. I kept her out of agility today. After she ran like a nut and hurt the leg, she plopped on the couch and napped all day...Wish I could do that I think last time they told me it was her "sacro illac" joint? From the leg up to the hips? The first time I thought it was her hip and they x rayed it. Found out her hips are excellant! They said if she was human they call this the "runners" injury...As a human she would have ben doing marathons by now |
Hope she feels better soon! |
She is feeling better. we rested her and today she went out but no running crazy! We went to get blessed by the priest at our local church for The Blessing of the Animal ceremony. It was lovely and she got blessed along with her brother and about 50 other dogs and various animals! The limping has stopped but tomorrow I go to work so she will get to rest it again all day. I also gave her some Caneva - elk antler ground up to sprinkle in her food. Very expensive but seems to help the healoing and in keeping the bones and joints in good condition... |
I too am going through a similar situation. It's always one thing or another. My 11 month old female has been limping since yesterday after a doggie park session. I didn't see her injure herself at all. I've checked her out several times and nothing but i heard some noises in her left hip. She has been totally fine till yesterday with no signs of any hip or joint problems. I'm very concerned. I hope its not anything major. I'm thinking of taking her in today or tomorrow. |
They will probably do x rays. Which might not be necessary at this point but is always good to ahve done. It will cost you some money but worth it. You will know if the hips are in good condition for the future. She may have just sprained her muscle. We ended up spraining or pulling the illac joint that runs down the leg from the hip. We did have to keep her from running crazy four to six weeks. And the vet gave us some anti inflamatories... Go to the vet. Make sure its notthing serious. And follow the advice...Keep us posted. Also, we use GlycoFlexII...helped and now we use it daily as a precaution... |
It is so scary when they limp - I can't stand it!! Hopefully with a couple days of quiet rest she will be great . . . and your mind will be at ease! |
Sending healing thoughts. peg |

She was checked past sunday by the er vet and he only guessed at a few possibilitites then recommended for us to see the ortho vet. I have appt with ortho specialist tomorrow. So we will know then what the problem may be. I hope that it is what you described and nothing more serious than that. After a couple days rest, she is putting more weight on her bad leg. Today she started running and hopping which made me feel better. Its difficult to keep her from doing it but I'm trying. I also started her on Cosequin. I'll look into Glycoflexx 2. Is that better? Do you still give her the Caneva and where you get that? Thanks |
My vets love Cosequin, as it has been so extensively studied. Oscar hasn't needed it yet, but our OES Quincy took it for four years and did very well on it. We saw positive results and no negative side effects. Laurie and Oscar |
