I am kind of new to the forum but wanted to announce that I get my baby OES this Saturday!! Couldn't be more excited! I will be traveling about 6 hours to get the little guy. Any tips, tricks, etc. anyone has to offer would be MUCH appreciated!! |

How totally wonderful. Our last week has been filled with sheepie puppy and its great. |
Okay let me post this again....... wasn't logged in. My first advice is to love them to bits. Lots of tactile touches, ears, pads of feet, up close face hugs etc. OES's are such big stuffed animals and people always want to touch and hug them. You want to start early to prepare them for it when they are grown. Good luck and have fun and most importantly do not take you puppy anywhere until they have had all their shots. Don't let them sniff around mailboxes where other dogs may have been, do not take them to the pet store (especially one with a vet where sick dogs have gone) When we get puppies we want to show them off but there are viruses that can kill them. Be careful. I didn't socialize mine until he was 16 weeks old and had all his shots. |
congrat we want plenty of pics |
Enjoy your new "beast" and take lots of pics because they grow up super fast!!! |
Yup.......Congratulations!!! We expect to see lots of pictures!!!!! |
Oh, a puppy! I thought a humanoid baby and only tip I could give was PUSH. Patience, patience........and ear plugs for the first night. |
Congrats! You will be busy for awhile. Lots of love and patience is needed. |
Just keep in mind that the first week is very exciting but also the worst and the craziest. REMEMBER it will become exponentially better each week!!!!!!! |
Congrats and good luck! Post lots of pictures soon please! Cindy |
From my experience, the young puppy times are hard! But OH SO BRIEF!! So grin and bear the tough stuff, it will definitely get better and go away, focus on the joy of this little puppy. I admit, Mady is not even 2, but I can barely remember what she was like as a 15lb puppy |
Okay, I just had time to reply! We have been so busy playing all week! @SheepieBoss.. YES on the earplugs! I will remember that for my next baby! We went outside 9x the first night!! Thanks to everyone for the advice! I am so happy to be apart of this forum! It is so helpful. |
Hi Lauren, and welcome from WV!! Your Nash is just precious, love the name! |
Congrats! I love those roly-poly babies!!! LOTS of toys is my advice . . . teach the pup to chew toys instead of fingers - haha!! |
Congratulations! The excitement begins in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . First advice - get lots and lots of sleep now! You'll be expending a lot of energy once he gets home. We were very lucky with Benson. She only gave us one night of fussing (6 nights in, when we changed our routine), but it gets exhausting making sure she's never out of our sight (translation: getting into something she shouldn't. ) Second, it's never too early to start reinforcing the behaviors you want. Every rest stop we made on the trip home, we played "chase Mommy" and "come - GOOD GIRL!" Even though it was her first time on a leash, and she had only known us for a matter of hours, she learned very, very quickly that hanging with us was the best place to be. (She actually learned "come" before she learned "sit.") And once you get home, if you don't want him doing something as an adult, don't let him do it at all, no matter how cute he is when he does it! And toys, toys, toys! She got stuffies, a Wubba, a Kong, a tennis ball, and chew bones right away. Any unacceptable behavior (ahem - chewing on my arm!) can be redirected to a toy. Good luck, safe travels, and post lots and lots of pictures! |
