Food Aggression with other dogs but not people
I need your advice. Harry (9 months old) is food and water aggresive towards other dogs. He is okay with people but with other dogs he will attack them. We visit my parents often and they have a miniature poodle that is his buddy. We feed them in different rooms but my parents do forget sometimes and will give the dogs a treat. Harry will run across the room and attack Teddy for the treat. When you go to pull Harry off Teddy he will snap at my parents but not with me. I also take Harry to the dog park and he will fight over water with other dogs, so I take Harry aside to give him a drink. I do the "Nothing for life is free" with him. He is so easy going about everything else except this. My parents are worried that perhaps one day he will bite a child or stranger over food. Does anyone have any advice. I'm thinking of getting a behaviourist. Tina & Harry |

| So much of this is an aware upright who is ready for trouble and immediately corrects it before the aggression begins.......the "evil eye" stage. Somewhere along the way this bully was allowed to get away with such behavior and now considers it his "right."  on the nothing in life is free attitude, but now you must first work to set him up to fail and prevent it by timely intervention. Then take this dog and pony show to your parent's and train them how to prevent problems........I guarantee they will be far harder to train than your bully. Finally, Harry goes to the dog park and you keep in on leash and purposely put him near others drinking and immediately correct if he even looks at those with water. With improvement you can allow him to drink.....still under your command. This won't be easy, it's a long process. |
