The past few months I have had to travel quite a bit for business. It is NOT my favorite thing to do but is necessary sometimes. Baley and Baxter HATE the suitcases. Baley more than Bax. I do my best to 'hide' them and pack when they are busy doing other things but somehow they just KNOW. When Baley does actually spot the suitcase and sees what is going on--he immediately puts on his 'sad face' and won't speak to me. He goes to the great room faces the window with his back to me- and won't budge. Baxter is a little less annoyed because to him- life is just one big party --so he can't let the fact that I am leaving interfere too much! Baley on the other hand just breaks my heart with his little sad face and turning his back to me. I am told that he mopes and keeps his sad face on most of the whole time I am gone. It takes him a few hours to 'forgive' me even when I get home. A few cookies and kisses can speed up the process! It is odd too because many times we take them with us when we travel and they seem to know by how I am dressed--which it is going to be--me leaving or us all going! Do any of your sheepies use their sad face?? I prefer sheepie smiles! |

Oh this just breaks my heart! We are leaving Mady for 22 days soon. We are leaving her with Amber, so hopefully that distraction will help. Sad puppies are the saddest. |

I know I am in SERIOUS trouble when they look like they just bit into a lemon. They are all descendants of either Belle or her sister, Coco, for whom the term "the citrus sisters" was collectively coined... They know how to work you is what it comes down to. And don't feel bad - works on me too I haven't had a dogless vacation since 2002... As for Mady, I have open house for offspring of my crew and they come, they stay, when their folks leave they look pathetic. Then they walk into the house, recognize their family members and fall right into the pack. Even a friend's rescue dog does this. We both have our noses out of joint: her, because Sadie leaves her without a backward glance, me, because Sadie barely spares me more than a couple of boings before she drags me into the house so she can be with her "peeps". I bet Mady'll be fine; it's still her home away from home and not like being left at a kennel. THAT would net you some seriously sad looks. Canine curses, the works. Kristine |
I agree, sad Sheepie faces are the worst. When I leave Ziggi, she will sit at the window and watch for me....even if I'm gone for a week. My friend that takes care of her when I'm away says she spends alot of time sitting at the window waiting. It breaks my heart. And when I get back, I get a sideways glance and a look of "oh you decided to come back" and then she walks away. |
That is sad times My wife's roommate had a dog and every time i took a suitcase out he'd attack it. Pretty funny. Kenny just stares. |
With our first oes, Apache, we went to Canada for 1-1/2 wks. My son stayed home with him and I guess he cried every night all night long. When we got home Jeff said you can't ever leave him again, we didn't. Apache didn't even acknowledge us for a couple of days when we got home. About broke our hearts. |
Aw, that is totally heartbreaking. Rudie looks like he is ready for an opportunity to destroy the house whenever we leave, I think he actually gets excited. Walter attacks my feet, so we see more teeth than any sort of sad face. Marley, however, has the saddest face ever when we are going somewhere and she finds out she can't come with. If we go out the back door she knows that means were going in the car so she always gets excited and trots over to come, I have to say "No, you have to stay", then I get the puppy dog eyes and slow walk back to her bed. She's a heartbreaker. |
I always pack in my laundry basket...then right before leaving I put it in the suitcase. I do this even if Izzie is coming with. She starts getting nervous/excited as soon as the suitcase comes out. On a regular basis she can guess if she is coming or not based on clothes. Comfortable sweats and the like means I am staying home or we are going for a walk. Jeans she sees as a 50/50 chance. Dress clothes means it is time to go to work and she is stuck at home |

That is about the way it is around here with the clothes--and Baley bases is final opinion as to whether I am going away without him- by what type of shoes I have on I think! |
Oh Karen that is cute. That happens here too even when I just go out for a walk. I see the face, well faces. It tugs at my heart. I feel like I am doing a bad thing. These guys are good! |

Awe, Baley really loves his Mom. Baxter and Copper would get along just fine. Copper's always up for an adventure and recently went to a doggie resort and had the best time. He met two sheepies. We were maybe as excited about that as he was. Things just have a way of going in his favor. He was so excited to get to go someplace, we were not able to travel for a long time due to Hannah's care, that he fully enjoys everything he gets to do. |

I do feel good when I remember the last time we visited Amber, Mady started to get excited when we turned down her street, before we even got to the house. I hope, too, that having had Morgan and Virginia here Mady will feel at home. I suspect that Mady will be fine and it will be ME who has the sad face. |
Mady wrote: I suspect that Mady will be fine and it will be ME who has the sad face. Bingo. A good friend offered to take Sybil for me for a while (half jokingly, I think) but I imagined being without her for even a day and I couldn't bear to think about it. Kristine |
