Sheepie doesn't like when we go swimming

Hi, my name's Christina from Ottawa and my OES Winston is Mady's (and Kim and David's) friend! Winston will be 1 year old on October 11th. He's beyond awesome, but hates when we go swimming. We just bought a cottage last month and he loves to splash around in the water and swim a bit and he is fine if we're in knee deep water with him on the beach (where he goes swimming) throwing sticks for him to fetch but HATES when we go swimming off our dock. We've tried to bring him in with us- he doesn't really like getting in by the dock because it's deeper there. We've tried to be calm, encouraging, etc but he just barks (sheepdog instinct, I know) and goes a bit crazy :excited: - VERY unusual for our normally laid-back, easy going sheepie dude 8) .
While swimming season is almost over for the year here, it's still annoying. Has anyone dealt with this before and any tips on making him more comfortable that we're OK when we're swimming? (now we just shut him in the cottage when we want to go in).

Thanks!

welcome this goes back around 20 years i had a oes that would sit on the steps of the pool but when people when in swimming she would run around barking and one time bit a guys head when he got to the edge of the pool boy i had forgotten that till now it use to drive me crazy i never could control her about that ..sorry i am no help but welcome from fl
Mady also gets very concerned if we do anything really out of the ordinary or she's not used to, and she will bark to express her concern. I know Mady would be barking if we were to jump in water and Mady wasn't comfortable following. They're responsible for the safety of the herd!
Have no suggestions but glad to see Winston and family joined the forum. We've seen pictures of him and he's another cutie.
Thanks for the welcomes :)
And David, I'm sure you're right and that's what it is: I was just hoping someone would have a magic cure for this, but I understand it's just his instincts.
Okay, so how many sheepies are there in Ottawa now? We really need to have a sheepie get together.

Sorry, I don't have any helpful advise for your situation.

OK, let's all have a play sometime next week! (Not this weekend because I'll be at my cottage getting barked at if I dare go swimming). One afternoon/evening at David and Kim's dog park? Or Elgin St dog park??! David & Kim: Is Killer available anytime next week?
Ziggi and I are in

pm me with the details
Ziggi wants to know if we can go to the chip truck for pogos?

I hope you guys get together - corn dogs (pogos) and a park outing sound great :clappurple: :clappurple:
I will check the weather forecast and choose a night, if you are brave enough to let your dogs come close to Mady.
Kim

Hundreds may be afraid of Mady but Winston and Ziggi are not part of that group. Ziggi and I are really looking forward to meeting Mady and Winston and all the uprights. And Ziggi wants me to mention the pogos again.....she rarely gets upright food with the exception of carrots. I know, I'm a mean cruel Mommy.
OK, how about next Wednesday (looks sunniest in the forecast) at Laroche Park (Hintonburg/Westboro area- Mady's usual park, nearish to the chip truck I'll assume). We can probably get there for around 4:45 if that time works for Ziggi(I'm told it works for Mady)? Any other Sheepies in the area feel free to join!
We will see you Wednesday at 4:45 in Mady's park.
Mickey would love to be there too, but we will have to wait until the next playdate. He is very much looking forward to meeting Ziggi and Uncle Winston sometime soon! He also really wants to see Auntie Killer, I mean Mady, again soon!!! :P
Here's a link to the park on Google maps in case you need directions:

I know this is an older post but I had to say I'm glad to see that OUR Winston is not the only one that does this. Whenever we go in our pool he goes crazy. We try to let him adapt, but after awhile, if he hasn't calmed down, he usually ends up back in the house. This saves our sanity and probably makes him feel that much more comfortable too.
