artists, marketing and fundraising

I have a question for all the artists out there and it kind of ties in with the marketing topic from the other day. I am a member of both a horse dressage club and a dog training club. we are always looking at ways to promote the club, activities we do and also raise money at the same time. I always forget until the events come up but I was wondering if there is a site out there to find artists locally or with similar mindsets that would want to display their wares, donate a small item or give minimal discounts to members of the club that purchase items from the artists????? we have an upcoming obedience trial in Oct, an agility trial in Nov, a dressage (horse event) clinic in Oct and year end awards banquet (horse thing) in Nov. With all these events and the holidays just around the corner I always think people come to the events and may want to do a little Christmas shopping, help raise money for the club or get something just for themselves as a treat.

with all the great art that I see out there I would love to share that with both of the clubs I am in, plus support the arts. There is a steeplechase coming up in our area next month and a lot of artists come to that and sell items to the public. I wish I had their names and info to get in touch with them. Of course they are mostly horse related but then I got thinking what about all the dog events coming up.....

It would be nice to have a central area or listing site to find people that do that artwork.... is there anything like that???

I dont know about your local area, but here there is a directory of shows and other art venues put out yearly by the chamber of commerce. You might also run a craigslist ad, an ad in the arts section of the paper, and any newsletters your organization puts out. Many artists and craftspeople could be found through your own membership's word of mouth. You can also do up a flyer/brochure and pass it out at other local art fairs, as well as pick up business cards for a mail out ad. Most commonly, organizations make money by charging the artists for space to display their work.

You could also try googling artist directories for your area.

^^^this is an example of this sort of directory for my own area

If you are looking for donations, going around and asking at shows works well, just be aware they are needing to focus on their customers first, and make sure you have paperwork done up ready to be filled out so that the artists aren't just handing over work to you without a tax receipt.
