He is 4 years old, mellow tempered, kind guy. He's exactly the type of dog we've been looking to adopt: great with our two girls and couldn't care less about our cats, no matter all the hissing and hair-on-ends. He's housebroken, does great on his walks, and is very respectful around the house. We picked him up (owner-to-owner) at a VA mall parking lot. He was stinky, had matted areas on his 1.5 in. coat and was full, and I mean FULL of big, fat fleas. While driving back home I checked with every single PetSmart and PetCo on our way, hoping that miraculously there will be an opening at a grooming salon, to no avail. As a final resort I had to make a call to Cindy. I dreaded it because, after all, it was Sunday afternoon and hated disturbing her. I really wanted to co-op with the situation on my own but could clearly see I wouldn't be able to. Cindy, without a trace of hesitation, agreed to give us a hand and invited us over. She had a phone call with Sharon who immediately volunteered her time and dog clippers for the sake of our Bero. Bob, Cindy's husband, was there for us, too. Not just to help, but also to make us laugh. Cindy gave a quick evaluation to Bero. He reacted admirably to each test. A big thank-you goes out to Kathy Buck as well, for she was the one to contact me about Bero (used to be Adorian) in the first place. So, THANK YOU, KATHY! The first night was a rather sleepless one for us all. I was back to work with barely 3 hours sleep, trying to replace my blood with espresso because of all that distressed barking and whimpering. After his yesterday's evening walk, Bero was literally falling asleep while sitting, almost tumbling over. I felt the same way. We all slept through the night. Now he is at the Vet's to be neutered. Frankly, I won't be missing all that marking around my house I haven't had the time to take proper pictures of Bero yet but you bet there will be loads in the future. |

Adorable markings (the ones on his face, not the leg lifting ones ). Kudos to the ladies in question for helping and very happy for you. Cute name! Kristine |
Mad Dog wrote: If you think lifting his leg outside is because he was intact, think again - my wimpy neutered male lifts his leg proudly Oh, I don't mind him lifting his leg to pee. What i mind is when he marks in the house. When we go for a walk, there's no marking. We really do go for a walk and he now knows it. There is a couple of "do your business" designated trees in our backyard. He pees (yes, lifting his leg) and poops, and then we're off for our walk. No stopping, no sniffing. Just being a pack on the move. We decided to start as we mean to continue so we're teaching him the routine and structure he's to have since the moment he became a member of our family. |

Kristine And as the owner of the above's brother who is intact and DOESN'T mark, that is so very true. Some is likely hormone, but mostly learned behavior. Good attentive watching him will be needed. Perhaps tethering him to you to watch him will help. I have an older house with lots of rooms and doors and baby gates, so retraining goes pretty well here. (Fostering OES and Bassets for rescue groups). I also use pee bands for when we are transitioning to more house privileges - no sneaking off and marking, you get your own self wetted on! And with my own group being 5 males and 1 female, the last thing I need is a naughty boy marking all over! Congrats on your new boy, and thanks to all involved for helping him out |
I could hardly contain myself!! He is adorable and was such a good boy!!! He did have fleas on him the size of rice and a very infected ear. Anna tried hard to get a grooming appointment and of course we all need to help one another in any way we can.I said just bring him here we can do it!! When I called sharon and told her I was going to shave down Anna's new boy she immediately said" want me to come help"? YES!! She did one side I did the other we gave him a quick bath and an application of front line I cleaned his ear and had medication to put in it I did an evaluation and he was marvelous!! My bad bad GSD foster was so worried that I was giving my love to another dog he jumped my 5 ft fence and came to the barn to see what was happening. Bero was fine with him. He(gsd denali) will be meeting potential adopters wed night I really want to keep him... ..as I am down to 3 dogs, but mean ol' bob said no. For once I am listening but How can I be 4 dog night with only 3 dogs. Dosen't seem right I am so happy for Anna and her family Bero has a great home. He will be at crazy acres next year for our sheepdog get to gether!!!! |

After such a long search you really deserved to get such a nice boy. Don't be too concerned about the marking. He'll calm down once he gets settled in and marking usually decreases. A belly band is always a great idea in the meantime because they hate peeing on themselves and get the idea very quickly. |
He looks and sounds wonderful. So nice of all of you giving your time to make him clean and happy. |
It was our pleasure .I feel special knowing I was the first to meet him It is always wonderful to see a dog in need go to a great home |
Congrats on your new boy Bero! Very handsome! Cindy |
Great age! Handsome boy! and to all who came to this guy's rescue. It takes a few weeks for all to settle down including the marking but I suspect being an older guy who has had a rough time, falling into the lap of love and luxury will boost him along faster. Define: Bero.......?? |

Welcome Bero. What a handsome boy. I am so glad he is in such a loving forever home. What wonderful people to help so much. I guess that is why we love Sheepies. They own such wonderful uprights. I wish you many long and happy years together. |
