I did not buy the home charger for my Tomtom. Can I just charge it via my car? I haven't fired it up yet. Does it need to be charged or can I plug it in my car outlet and it will work? I bought this thing with Sheepiepalooza in mind so I better get it working by May 2012! |

You can probably just charge it up as you use it the first time... but they used to recommend that you charge for a few hours before the first use.. BUT (again with the but?) they usually mean the first battery usage. If you can charge it in the car for a few hours before you start using it, that might be best, but I really wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as you plug it in just before you start using it, you should be fine. Model number of the TomTom might be helpful so we can google it! |
I figured out my real question and I think I figured out the answer. I only need the battery charger if I want to use the device cordless (without plugging it into my car's lighter or whatever it's called now that cars don't come with lighters). The model is VIA 1405TM. |
I have a Garmin, but I would think it's set up pretty similar. I plugged mine in to use it the 1st time, and it was ready to go. Literally plugged it in, turned it on, and started using it. I use mine plugged in all the time.....I only unplug it when I'm in someone else's car (a passenger in the back usually) and I am looking stuff up on a trip. Or if I have it in the house before a trip and I'm loading destinations into it. LeAnne uses hers on battery a lot - it doesn't seem to matter much which way you go. |
