Teddy looks like he's practicing his post TD dance and doing it well. Good job Teddy!!! Vance |
That's not catch, it is keep away. What a lovely green yard, 2 blue spruces........aaaah. |
Great video! Have you started with a very small treat held up high using the same words? "Readyyyyyyyyyy CATCH!" and drop the treat. If he misses... LEAVE IT! and you pick it up and turn your back for just a second. Then start again. That way maybe he'll get the concept of "Readyyyyy CATCH" but it looks like he's trying anyway. Especially that second one with his face! Bwahahaha! Loved it. Thanks for sharing this... and your fenced yard is amazing. |
No, I haven't tried that Ron but that is a good idea. I wasn't sure how to approach catching because I haven't had a sheepdog yet that could catch. I know it's not their forte'. We will keep trying and give that a go. Cindy |
awww so cute! I love watching them run. |
yes it is keep away ,, he is so cute it does not matter if he learns to catch it |
Cute video!!! Great game. Charm excels at that one too! |
First, I just want to give him a great big hug. And second, I could watch his cute puppy bum run around the yard all day. The catch think was good too |
Very cute..he's getting very close!! |
What a beautiful boy..... I can hear you say silly, glad to know I am not the only one who calls their kids silly, but I love their silliness. Made me smile this a.m. Robin |
Cindy, you have the right idea. He needs to be very close (about 3 feet away) at first, and you just try to throw it in his mouth. If he actually catches it then wow lots of praise and treats Keep it like this for a few weeks and make sure he has lots of success. Then you can start slowly moving a few feet further away and keep his success rate high before you move back any further. When he is catching it from about 15 feet away then you can start throwing it over his head and he will eventually learn to run after it and jump for it. It will take a while and you have to really keep it fun. The way I taught Millie to bring it back was to run away from her after she caught it. She would chase me down and I would take the frisbee and throw it again. After a while I phased out the running away and now she just brings it back so that I will throw it again. Oh, you should really teach this inside in the beginning so he can't play keep away. He will get it. Keep up the good work, it is really rewarding when you can play together. |
Thanks Jennifer! That's a good idea. I've never been able to teach my sheepdogs to catch. Maybe Teddy will be the one! Cindy |
jenn, quit being nervous about showing, anyone that can teach a sheepie frisbee has their act together. |
Guest, Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'd rather teach Teddy how to catch a frisbee than think about the upcoming show. I think it's just fear of the unknown, but I'm starting to feel better thanks to all of the support on this wonderful forum. |
i love that big fluffy butt!! and catching with his face is priceless! |
Too Too CUTE! |
Oh that was cute. Looked familiar. Mine do the same. Thanks for the training tips. Will try. Bogey loves fetch But only in the house. Will not do it outside. I will try agin with frisbee outside when it gets under 90 here. |
