I'm sorry I don't have any experience but hope you can find some help here. You might also check this Yahoo Group to see if there's first hand experiences that might help- http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/CanineGlaucoma/ |
No, sorry don't know a thing about it in dogs. What little reading I've done it doesn't sound like something you can mess around with alternative medicines. For sure join the YahooGroups folks...there you will find more help. Sorry for your pup and you. |
I personally haven't had a dog with glaucoma, but we are seeing it a lot in the rescue bassets in the midwest. Seems the mills and BYB's are having it run rampant through the dogs they are breeding. As it doesn't show up until they are adults...they just keep selling puppies! (I volunteer with basset rescue). It seems to pretty quickly spread to the other eye - within a few years at most. I know several families who fought it quite aggressively in their adopted dogs, and I am pretty sure it would be this med they used. Seeing it's fast progression, and they likely (unfortunately) will not be on it really long, my impression would be to use it as long as there is any hope to preserve the vision in the remaining eye. I'm sorry your dog has glaucoma Please make sure you contact your breeder so they are made aware that this disease is in their lines. They should not continue breeding these dogs. |
