The boys were gone all day at the beauty salon so I cut the grass in back and set up my own circle of death and the weaves in the best place. So we work on the circle of death for a few and on to the weave poles. I still have them spread a little and the first time through was not good. Ok lets try this again...he makes it all the way through.... ...nip, nip. This time instead of a bruise he broke the skin So just for fun lets try the going back the other way. My foot hit a hole(that one of them dug) and I twisted my foot. End for today...take some ibuprofen and stay off the foot(it really hurts). We'll try again tomorrow. |

Injuries are a sign of greatness and progress...right? Keep at it, don't be too hard on yourself and have fun |
Ice the foot, on and off, no more than 15 minutes at a time. While icing the foot, visualize Simon doing all of this perfectly. If that doesn't work, get your sweetheart to make you a fancy girlie drink and watch a fluffy movie-that always helps! |
Bummer I hope your ankle settles quickly. |
Sounds like one of our practices..... Hope your foot improves so you can go back and do it again!!! Feel better!!!!!! |
Oh, Pam....don't mean to laugh but Weds night in class Dazz got so worked up she forgot herself and jumped up and bit me somewhere you can't mention in polite company.... These dogs! Excellent start. Dawn has been given weavepole homework from Sue as well. Me too. Kristine |
Well that was a rocky start for you But lets look at the bright side. He did do the weaves. No matter how many holes you step in Pam, hobble on out to the backyard and work his weaves just a few times once a day, 5-6 days a week. Give yourself some slack days so you don't get burnt out. I really find that the frequent short sessions do sink in. Of course, in a trial they don't always pay off but I can usually see the result in class. Keep up the good work and try not to let the dog or the yard kill you. |
Ugh yes, us too..... we have the pokey weaves going on. ...but w/ Todd's new killer hours (seasonal job, gone everyday 4am - 8pm), our lawn has slid...add in a drought, and we have near bare spots, and weeds that are seeding out at about a foot tall. My agility stuff is moved, hoping I will someday mow. Hoped to mow Monday after my minivacation in WI, but turned out nightmare with food poisoning, and home late Monday Working 12 hour shifts yesterday and today....supposed to be humid and 90's on my day off tomorrow.,.oh joy. But I will have tackle part of it for sure. (about 6 hours of mowing total). We need to get to practice a LITTLE bit, as I work again Friday 12 hours and have our 1st trial in forever this weekend!! |
Pam - hows the ankle? and the weave boot camp?? Thought I'd update. I got most of that lawn mowed (in 9o+ temps ), so the stuff is back out. I have homework from Sue to do the 12 weaves in a channel - just enough to really get him moving again. And really hype it and reward it. I have been doing it almost daily, and it's helping. We tug and treat (alternate) after each run through. We also have been working serpentines, so that's his "break" activity between weaves. All told, we spend just 5-10 minutes (getting dark anyway) and stop w/ him wanting MORE! I have stick in the ground weaves - enough for 12 - so they are set in a channel. Then I have my new set of 6 straight weaves in the 24" spacing set also, so he doesn't forget how to make a proper weave entry. So far it's working really well. Tomorrow I have a day off, so the plan is to move the 12 channels a bit closer in. We've still had virtually no rain (4 weeks now ), so it's a project. I have to pour water on the spot each one goes in just to be able to push them into the ground. Then we will practice them for a bit (maybe a week or less), and move again. |
