Amazing how fast a routine is established!

Well before we brought Benson home, hubby and I discussed the night-time potty routine. Both of us work from home, but my schedule is flexible, while his revolves around his clients' regular work hours. So we agreed that, since I can take a nap during the day if I get too tired, I would get up every couple of hours with Benson six nights a week, until she is potty trained.

Ever since her first night home on Monday, she and I have been going to bed around 11, and getting up for potty breaks together. Her crate sits next to my side of the bed, so she hears and smells me all night long.

Saturday night is hubby's night for potty duty, as I have to be up at 4:30 am for my part-time radio shift. So last night, I went to bed around 8:30. Benson started pacing the entire house - I was in bed, and that was just wrong! She and hubby came to bed around 11-ish, and he slept on the side next to her crate. Well, that was even more wrong! She whined and dug at the floor of the crate for 20 minutes. Every time he took her out, it was another 20 minutes of whining and digging at the crate floor when she got back in.

It just amazes me how quickly she got the routine, and how upset she was by this change! :cow:

"Mommy, will you come to bed with me if I share my bone?"

She is so cute. Yes, I've found that sheepdogs do seem to be creatures of habit more then my Aussies. Violet, my OES, still comes around at 4:50 every afternoon for her dinner...I've never set that time, but I think the rescue must have fed them at that time and I've had Violet for almost 9 yrs. lol

Enjoy your little sweetheart!
It is funny how quickly they settle in to a routine.

But now I'm wondering about your 4:30 AM radio shift. Are you an on-air personality? If so, what channel?
True through life. "Last Call" is my DH's job at night. They are out and back in less than 10 minutes. If I do it we languish around out there for 30 minutes.

I'm on WCNY-FM, 91.3 - the Classical station out of Syracuse. I'm on every weekend, 10-1 on Saturday morning, and 7 to noon on Sunday mornings. 4:30 is when my alarm goes off on Sundays - blech! I do fill-ins for the weekday announcers when they take time off, too. Except for waking up early on Sundays, I absolutely love it.

We've spent all week getting her used to the fact that we don't wake up as early as her breeder does. And then, of course, I got up early this morning. Tomorrow should be interesting!
Don't break their routine, have found that out. Nothing is more important then making sure things run smoothly.

Your radio job sounds very interesting.
I work swing shift and Teddy has adapted great just as all of my OES have in the past. His bedtimes, wake ups, potty and feeding times very by several hours depending on my shift and days off each week. I work days, afternoons and night shift. This actually works out great for traveling or whatever we are doing on my days off.

I think sheepdogs love routine. We try and often do unusual things with Mady so she can cope with changing situations, but she LOVES her routines, and so many of them involving us, were not trained by us, just her observing and learning our routines.

Even when we go out like a weekend away with tons of fun activities for Mady, as much as she enjoys them, she's always happy to be back home and settling back into routine.
I have a different schedule weekdays and weekends. Then there is the Summer and school days differences.
The older dogs have helped the puppies learn the schedule, so there is not an issue.

Poor Bailey hats to potty any place but our house and the Embassy Suites by my mother's house. When she was a puppy, we often stayed there when visiting family. She knows right where the dog area is located. We've actually had to drive from my daughter's apt to the Embassy Suites so Bailey would potty. We were worried that she wouldn't go at the lake house, but having some familiar furniture/smells around helped.

While a schedule is a good thing, don't be so rigid that the dogs can't be adaptable.
Your baby is adorable! :hearts:
What a little smart sweetheart to already expect a routine. :yay:
