I am not referring to slow walking on leash. I mean when he's asked to do something he doesn't want to do, and he really doesn't want to do it, but he complies, but then he walks.....one paw at a time......oh so very slowly......without stopping......but making us all wait for the little prince. I totally get that it's a control issue. It often happens after supper when we want to go upstairs and watch TV. The dogs have the upstairs, and the computer room which has the stairs in it, but we close the computer room door. (It keeps certain little creeps named Hudson out of trouble in the kitchen that way.) They can hang in the TV room with us, or be in the bedroom, bathroom, hallway, spare room, or computer room. It's not like they are horribly trapped. My husband (he mostly does it for him) will call the dogs and Rudy will bound into the computer room and up the stairs, but Hudson will start walking, lifting a paw every second (which is slower than it sounds...try it...one Mississippi, moves paw.....two Mississippi, moves next paw.) His head is down but he makes eye contact. There's a loud and clear message. Nothing my hubby says will move him faster. But if I get involved and say, "Move it" the pace instantly changes and someone scampers his little bottom up those stairs. I get a little more respect from the Little Man than my hubby does. So are there any other sheepies who move in perfect slow motion to show their displeasure? |

Every time Violet has to take a bath, which is usually weekly, she walks as slow as a turtle with her head tucked down, but she finally makes it there. Violet is the most obediant of all the animals. China lays flat on the floor and has to be carried, but that is a blog for another day. |
Mady is like this on the way back from the dog park. I get evil glares from passersby, as we walk along a very busy street to go home, as they see me drag the little woebegone fluffball home. And it is NOT because she is tired. I find it incredibly irritating but, after a two day sheep herding clinic, I am realizing that I need to step up a bit and be more of a leader. Or a dictator. Not quite sure how far to go with it... |

She slow walks but will walk up the stairs, into Melissa's room and directly into that bathroom and even get in the tub when I point to it. Then...even though she knows, knows, knows what is coming... she jumps in surprise and gives me a shocked look when I turn on the water Other prime slow walking opportunities are when she sees you grab a brush, comb or scissors. She knows what is going to happen. She will comply with what you want her to do, but not without slow-walking to let you know how she really feels |
definitely a respect issue. being firm and having high expectations at all times really helps. After training my horse for years I finally really REALLY listened to my trainer when she said "ask once, correct firmly if the response was not quick enough or correct and if still not listening ask so that they know you are NOT fooling around. then ask nicely again" I realize now I was letting him get away with things or letting them slid and he was just plodding along at his own pace since I wasn't "in charge" Since my new attitude and trying to be in charge at all times it is like night and day. Why didn't it click 2 years ago......who knows but what a difference. Funny thing is when I train Bella I always am in charge and don't let things slide. |
I don't really have much to add, except I glanced at the title of this thread really quickly and I thought it said..... Does anyone have a passive aggressive slow talker? Oops... Now, I realize it was walker and not talker! Sounds like he may have a little sheepie stubborness |
Yep the dreadful slow walk of death, when it is bath time.....they act like I know I have to but I will drag my feet in hopes she changes her mind. Robin |
Oh how I wish for the slow walk. Tiggy just stands still and stares at me until I take a step towards her. Then she does what I've asked. It's usually when she's on the 'good' side of the baby gate, ie the side nearest the front door and a walk. I've tried waiting her out but she has more time and patience than me. |
From the time Cooper was a puppy, he would flatten himself on the ground and refuse to get up when he did not want to do something. I was able to pick him up then but not now. He still pulls that trick. Oh and he does the slow walk also. If I say he is going to get his nails cut or brush him, he slowly disappears downstairs to hide. Funny how they all have this sneaky, stubborn trait. I have had so much fun with my Sheepies! |
