Frontline Plus vs. Advantix II

This has been a bad year for ticks, and Gus got his first ever prescription for Frontline Plus from his vet in May. It’s time to get a refill, and I have two questions:

1.Judging from the advertisements, K9 Advantix II seems to be a better choice than Frontline Plus. Opinions, please!

2.Gus’s vet charges $60 for a three-dose supply of Frontline Plus. The same med is available online from 1800pedmeds.com for $40. Has anyone used the online prescription service? I know I should support Gus’s vet – and I normally would – but a 50% markup is a little over the top.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I use Frontline Plus and have for a very long time. Ticks are very bad in NJ and I have found this to work just fine.
I buy it on-line and you don't need a prescription. Frontline is over the counter.
You can save money as you noted by doing a little research and going with a reputable company.
Hi,
I have been using Frontline Plus for years on our two OES with no adverse affects. At the beginning of the summer I switched to Pet Armor Plus, which is the generic version of Frontline Plus. I did some research and Merial's patent has expired for Frontline Plus. Pet Armor is sold at Walmart, it is their brand, for $25.00 for a three month supply. A very significant savings. I find it just as effective as the Frontline Plus and I am in a major tick and flea area.

I had been told by the groomer that used to trim Farley not to use the over the counter because it can burn their skin and cause the hair not to grow. Have no personal experience either way.

I do know I cannot use Advantix II on Butch, had a terrible reaction but the basset didn't. Stopped using anything. Took Dawn's advice on the emu oil and it seemed to help. Our tick problem hasn't been bad at all this year. Last year it was terrible.
Like Shari we live in New Jersey and we also use Frontline Plus for Bailee. In 3 years I have found TWO Ticks on him, BOTH DEAD!! Our Vet charges $40 for 3 months supply and we just picked up 6 months worth about 3 weeks ago after receiving a coupon from our Vet which gave us 2 additional months free. We also had a coupon for a $15 refund for a 12 month supply for his Heartworm meds (Heartguard) which cost us $43 for a 6 month supply. All in all I think our Vet is actually cheaper than a lot of the on-line deals especially since we do not have to pay shipping.
We're in Jersey too and the ticks are bad! Chowder has had bad reactions to the over the counter stuff and the vet was not surprised at all! We have been using natural oils for a few months and so far so ticks. There are some really bad reactions to advantix, just Google it.
