He is a little over 6 years old and he is HUG’s is the biggest poodle I ever lay my eyes on. He was living with 13 sihi tzus confined to a kitchen all the time and no place to run or anybody to play, he is very well behave, and a very mellow guy, he is happy if you pet him and give him some attention. Kathy took him last weekend to a grooming expo were she enter him in a creative grooming competition , they did not win but she say that next year will be different , she decide to keep him after he was the best well manner dog and a very sweet one. I took some pictures of him with Camille and Tilly so you can see how much bigger he is. I don’t have idea what we are going to do with him but even if is crowed here at least he has room to run and Tilly and Camille to play with, so wish us luck ! In the mean time I am going to look for a second job so we can feed our growing family hehehehe |

Wow are you keeping him permanently? Mady always loves standard poodles, I'm sure Tilly will get along great! |
Oscar is a beautiful boy. I can see why Kathy couldn't let him go. |
I love Standard Poodles. They are so smart. Not yippy like the smaller versions. I can't wait to see him when he has the fancy poodle hair-do! |
He is very nice looking and Tilly looks happy. These guys know where they have it good even if it's crowded. |
He is very handsome! Standards are so nice. I wouldn't hesitate to have one. And they aren't that easy to find. Congratulations! Sounds like he hit the jackpot!!!!! |
Well, he is very nice boy I have to say, but, keep in mind that he is a Royal Standar, what that means is that he is much, much biger than a standard. In fact is the bigges poodle that you can find, as you can see in the pictures, he is towering Tilly, she is 24 in at the withers he is 31 in. and from the head down he is 43, I don't even want to see how long he from nose to tail but he is BIG |

Officially there is no such thing as a royal standard, it's merely a marketing term, much like "tea cup" poodles, to justify extreme size in either direction. So he's a very large standard, but a standard nonetheless, and an adorable one at that. If I was to go with any other breed of dog for whatever reason a black standard poodle would top my list. Have a blast with him. Kristine |
He is a good looking dog!! I like his clip....I would not mind a poodle if they were that size. |
The more the merrier~~~~~ |

So cute! Although, he does look quite big against Tilly!! There is a standard black poodle at our dog park (male-intact) that has a bit of a love interest in Dahlia.... Sometimes though, it gets to be a bit too much and I need to get involved and separate.... and then I usually give a look over to the owner who is sitting and talking and not watching.... I usually make some reference about not wanting a shoodle (or whatever the poodle/sheepdog mix is) Not, that Dahlia is in season, but, just to get him up and focused on what his dog is doing.... |
Cute!! Add me to the list that love SPs! I just can't get the husband to agree on ever having one. |
He's a tall guy and quite handsome. Nice to see he's a black poodle...the white ones just get me...kind of like blue eyes in dogs with Todd. I was wondering about that Royal comment, as the only 3 "legal" varieties are standard, miniature and toy. I had to look it up (breed standard) and it states "over 15 inches" (no maximum) as the size for a standard. Figures that someone started giving a name to the bigger sized ones to make them seem more valuable. |
Never heard of a Royal Standard, no matter. big dogs, long legs are great until they get older. Longer way to fall over. Sounds like a good size by DH standard, if only we didn't tell him it was a poodle. Let the hair grow a bit and I think we can fool him, LOL. Yeah, more dogs the merrier......and if they have room to exercise, they will get along better. Even dogs need to blow off steam........or especially dogs need to blow off steam. |
You are right guys, is just a fancy name for a huge poodle, he is very well manner and so sweet, the lady that used to have him told us that he was sold as a minuature poodle and the people that buy him believe them so when poor Oscar got to be this size they did not want him any more so she took him. Kathy was an is his groomer and this lady told her that she did not have time or space for Oscar anymore besides he cry and cry everytime Kathy left after his grooming, he just adores Kathy, and Kathy felt sorry for Oscar so he is here now. His name was Damien, and I did not like it, it just sound too evil for me, so I change it for Oscar so he is our Oscar Wild now He weights 96 Lb and he is neuterand has a little white star in his chest. Hed is very cute and the little dogs love him too, kelly just cuddles with him so is Ruby the minuture poodle that we have she is in love with Oscar I wanted another OES but I guess you take what God say that has to be even if it is the bigger poodle that is out there LOL |
I'm with you Monica, I would change his name too! He will have a wonderful time with your gang, for sure |
I really dislike Damien, so anything is better. Sounds like a lovely cuddle buddy and plenty to cuddle. Pretend he's OES by not shaping the ears and no poodle feet......and no pompom tail. Poodles on longer coat are far less....frufru. You can't get too long though, good fluffy puppy cut. Now we'll have to dye that hair a light color I suspect you wn't be able to do much with the groomer wanting to stay in contact with "her boy." Generally standards are amazingly healthy and sturdy. Friend was looking for a good hiking dog, vets kept suggesting poodles......but friend was more conscious of his "male image" and wouldn't consider a ......frufru dog. I've thought about SP over the years. DH just can't get past the "show dog" poodle. men....... |
I like poodles that aren't cut in the poodle cut, just me not anything personal against anyone that does like it. They are very smart and good dogs and I'm sure there is another oes in the future. Would be for me too if I wasn't old. |
Congrats on your new boy! Oscar is very handsome indeed! Our family had a miniature black poodle that lived to almost 19 years old. My mother wanted a dog that didn't shed and we got her for Christmas and named her Chrissy. She was as smart as they come. I think I was 12 years old that Christmas. I got a job after high school working in a grooming shop as the dog bather. After working there for awhile and watching the groomers, I would practice grooming on Chrissy. It wasn't a pretty job, but my mother didn't care since it was free!....lol I loved our poodle, but always wanted a bigger dog and thought I would eventually get a standard poodle. Then I fell in love with the big shaggy dogs and it's been sheepdogs ever since. I still have thought once in awhile about having a standard poodle. Like sheepdogs, you don't see many around. Cindy |
We need a family portrait! Oscar is adorable, congratulations on your bouncing 94 pound baby boy! |
Oscar is lovely. And just a tad too tall for a mini poodle. I'm glad he's fitting in with your gang. He does make Tilly look small. |
I loveee Poodles! I've always wanted an Apricot but Jeff hates poodles. I've never heard of a Royal Standard but heard of an English Poodle - which is a taller and stockier version of a standard. A friend in Minnesota has a couple of those. Anyway, always learning something new! Royal Standard - will keep that mind! |
