Is my dog wierd???????

One of the great things about this forum, for me, is that I have never had contact with anyone else who owned an OES. I have raised Tasker in total isolation and ignorance of how sheepies are supposed to act. Evidenced by my (incorrect) assumption that ALL sheepies wear boots :?

So now I have another question....... Tasker will only eat if someone is home with him. Tonight we came home from work, walked him, filled his dish and then headed out the door to go out. When we came back a couple hours later Tasker was waiting happily but as soon as we got inside he headed over to his dish and started to eat (ling past his usual dinner time). This happens all the time. I can't even feed him and go outside to work in the yard. He won't eat unless I am physically present in the house. I don't even have to be in the same room, just in the house.

I'm afraid I may have damaged my poor puppies psychie over the last 8 years by not being in contact with other OES owners  Is there any chance he'll be a "normal" sheepdog someday? Poor thing, I'm trying to get us both up to speed by reading the forum out loud!!!!!! I'm not sure he even realizes HE'S A DOG!

Mine don't eat when we aren't there no matter how long we're gone. Tasker seems pretty normal to me...well, maybe not the boot thing :D
WHEW!!! There may be hope for him yet then.... I've found the OES forum just in time!
HoW dumb do you think I feel?? :? I found this forum in Oct 04, after having owned sheepies for 26 years. I also never was in contact with another sheepie owner. In reading all the posts, I found quirks and mannerisms that I thought were my dogs' alone, only to find out that MOST sheepies do the same thing! Also learned WHY they do some stuff they do, and many of my un-asked questions were answered. Man! I guess I should consider myself and my dogs fortunate that we all lived through everything with no help!! How did I ever survive?? 8O

Momo is the same way! I can't even leave the room or she won't eat. I found out when I was late one day and I had to brush my teeth - I came back and she was staring at the door. :?
Well, I used to make Luke and Beau wear raincoats so I guess I have no room to talk :D It is comforting to know that lots of others have been through it all, not just you.

Because we were enrolled in the independant study program
at OES University ???

When we had our first OES years ago, there were very few
in our area. We had few resources except a few books.
It would have been wonderful to have a forum like this
to guide us!

Tasker's Mom- Our Bogart prefers dining in with the family.
He appreciates a little romano cheese delicately
sprinkled on top of kibble (as a treat)
puppy + cheese = happy puppy
Raincoat? I haven't tried a raincoat.... a Cammo raincoat would go peeeeeeeeeerfectly with the cammo boots :D I'm not telling Tasker that Bogart gets cheese on his kibble!
Hi Taskers mom, My Murphy wears a raincoat, it is your basic yellow. You should see him when we walks from behind with it on, looks like an enormous baby duck waddling along  Now if I could only find the yellow boots :!:
HA!!!!!!! I received your e-mail, I'll send you the info!
We have a red one and a yellow one. Lori, do yours have hoods? Luke and Beau wore them twice before they outgrew them. I do have a picture of them wearing them, I'll try to post it.
Both of my dogs will only eat if I'm around and in view. For the longest time, Lucy would only eat food that I gave her. It was really hard to go away and not take her because she wouldn't eat if someone else fed her. She was a rescue and I always wondered where that behavior came from. As big as Clyde is, I get the feeling he really doesn't even like to eat that much. I think he only eats to taunt Lucy to come over to the bowl so he can attack her for getting too close to his food. *sigh* My dysfunctional animals...
Belle will only eat if she can growl three times at Kayli. Which means, of course, that Kayli has to be finished with her food and already be standing there waiting for Belle to finish before Belle will even start the growling process.

Do you ever wonder if you sound like a total idiot when you're trying to explain your pets' eating habits to someone who is just feeding them while you're gone for a day or two?
Not long after I got Lucy (maybe about a year) I had to go away for a few days for a wedding. I left my mother a 5 page list of rules and routines for Lucy. She looked at me like I was nuts.
Remy doesn't like to eat alone either. I also dress her up, to keep her clean. People look at us like we are crazy, after all she has a big thick coat. They just don't get it.
