I would keep putting her in, but issue a command when you do it. We use "go kennel." Once she's in praise her like she's the best thing ever and give her a cookie. It may take a long time, but I think she'll eventually stop fighting and will go there herself. We had one that fought at first, but now if I hold up a cookie and say "go kennel" all my dogs will run away from the cookie and wait in their crates/designated spot. I'd just keep on gently putting her in, saying nothing but "go kennel" as you do. It may just take time. That's how we've done it. However, there are some really smart people here who may have much better suggestions. |
Our late Bentley was like that at 4 1/2 years old. After a while, like 6 months of persistence he wised up. He would finally go in but it looked like he was walking to the gas chamber. He learned and we always rewarded him. Just keep at it. Vance |
Early on our trainer said just put Mady in and don't worry about trying to coax her into the crate. It's not a negotiation! Mady accepted the deal after a while, and we just tell her "crate time" and she'll go in, or she'll go in herself if it's the normal time she would be going in. Of course, be happy and cheerful when you do put her in, and can give a treat afterwards in her crate. |
