That is WONDERFUL!!! And YES, it is CHARM'S PARK I swear, we have been incredibly lucky here...... ....so maybe we should all pool our resources and enter the lottery!!! Is the site picked yet, Brenda? Is it near your home? |
This is awesome!!!! WOO HOO. Maybe a Sheepie play date at your park when it opens?? WAY TO GO! |
So far, no further details on the dog park. The initial plan was to begin with fencing and excavation so it could be used while raising funds for the next two phases. But now, the money will be enough to do all three at once. Second phase includes landscape, a puppy area, a timeout zone for unruly guests and drinking fountains. Last section will be construction of agility equipment and other things(I'm at a loss here) Now, with the windfall, the committee will happily need to combine their plans and coordinate the project. So, right now, everyone is still riding the high "WE WON" and no one knows any more. The dog park will be a part of our city gem, Ritter Park. It's the central hub of activities in our town. Everyone has a nostalgic memory of our park, we love it and frequent it. I hope to show it as a playdate in the future. Maybe as a stopover to Sheepiepalooza? We are very proud of "Charms Park" and when a contest is announced will submit. I also know how good you are at names, so will be asking for suggestions Thanks to all for helping make this project a reality. |

Congradulations! When you are planning your park, be sure to check out the one here by me. Its in the Town of Brookhaven, NY....go to the www.suffolkunleashed.com site and feel free to email Gina Lewis. She just went through this and has so many great ideas for a dog park!!! The park she built has won awards for the best dog park in New York... |

I've never been to W.V. so maybe a vacation in that direction is in order after "Charms Park" is done! I like the sound of that name! So happy your city won! Cindy & Teddy |
Congradulations !!!!!!!!! |
That sounds like it's going to be fun....and PICTURES!!! |
yay, congrats! |
Mady looks forward to visiting CHARM'S park! Congratulations!!! |
congrats brenda and huntington, just curious if the committee had engineers do drawings and put this out for bid in total or in 3 stages? and if there is an engineering firm, do they have experience with dogparks and/or looking at other examples around the country? |
Woo Hoo! The only thing I know about West Virginia from personal experience is I got charged a whole lotta money in roaming fees on my cell phone back in 2003. I hope someday to be able to come and visit your new dogpark! |
Hate when that happens,Ron. Hope you were able to get those charges removed from your cell phone bill. Robin |
Nope, didn't even try. I used the minutes, I pay for the minutes. My own fault for not looking to see that (at the time) all of WV wasn't on my roaming plan, while nearly everywhere else in the country was. |

The park she built has won awards for the best dog park in New York... What a wonderful site. http://Www.Suffolkcountyunleashed.com is so informative, and helpful. I may frequent there for their tip of the Week feature. Lucky you to have such a nice park. Particularly, the rules and tips for parks was enlightening. I will pass along to the committee for their implementation phase. Thank you for your guidance |
Brenda, Gina actually asked me for my input into this dog park. Yes, there are alot of rules but for thouse of us who take regular care of our dogs, the rules weren't a problem. Too often dog parks become a place for people to come who are too lazy to train and exercise their dogs and they come to a dog park, let their dogs go and proceed to chat with the other humans and pay no attention to their dog...These humans have no idea how to control their dogs and most of the time, well, not most but alot of the time, their dogs weren't socialized and are rather agressive in their play...Best to ahve rules and safety features built in.... Contact Gina on that site any time for help. She is a very helpful and dog knowledable human! |
I took this picture of the artists rendering of the proposed park. I should have taken shots of the beautiful area, but just thought of it. Soon. I'm not certain about the engineers contracted for the park, their expertise, etc. I do think the company is local, as trying to use our internal resources in this economy. Do know that considerable research and site visits to other parks was done in an effort to do this right(the first time ). I know the picture is hard to read, but maybe it will be decipherable. The (future) features within the key will now be added in the initial construction, thanks to your help |
Congratulations, I am very envious. |
brenda, yes, was able to decipher from the drawing other than existing topography and vegetation. looks like they are quite capable and have a great design. yes, other communities will be viewing it for future projects and will be envious. now, hoping it comes in on budget. |
Whoo Hoo!! Congratulations!! Been out of town and on the run but did get to vote on ipad!! So happy for you! |
Congratulations!,!!! Yayyyyyyyyyyy. We are all cheating here! Way to go! |
